Jenny Packham is the latest Designer at Debenhams

I love Designers at Debenhams. The Henry Holland and Preen collabs are my first stops when I need something new. So I was uber-excited to hear that Jenny Packham was joining the Designers at Debenhams crew in April with her new collection, which is called 'No.1 Jenny Packham'.

I popped down today for a sneak preview of the range:

Once this collection launches, Debenhams really will be the go-to high street store for occasionwear! I picked up the bridesmaids dresses for my wedding from Debenhams, and as soon as I saw this collection I knew that brides-to-be, as well as stressed-out guests would fall in love with it.

I was actually really impressed. Having seen Jenny Packham's bridalwear in the flesh (then sighed a hearty sigh because of its pricetag) I was dubious about reworking those luxurious designs into something that would look good at a highstreet price point. I expected something to be lost in translation. But it really does work! The dresses are classic and beautiful with gorgeous detailing and embellishment. I spotted at least three that I want to add to my wardrobe right now!

So the million dollar question is what will it cost? Well, I was surprised by how reasonable the prices were. The prices of the dresses range from £85 6o £160. Which is a lot for an everyday dress for the office, but a bargain for a special occasion frock. The bags, jewellery and shoes range from £18 to £100.

Bargain hunting on TKMaxx.com

Hi guys,

As you all probably know already, I love TKMaxx. I just can't resist a bargain, and when it's too cold for car boot sales, and I don't want to trawl through charity shops, TKMaxx is my next logical shopping stop! So imagine my delight when I discovered that on days where I'm feeling too lazy to even visit my local TKMaxx store, I can still shop their fine bargains by visiting their website.

No rummaging, no having to trawl through rails looking for the right size, and no other shoppers elbowing you out of the way to get to the good stuff. Because let's face it, the shoppers in TKMaxx always seem a little more agressive about their haul than in other stores. Just lovely yummy bargains, with the discounts clearly marked, and even the savings percentages worked out for you!

The TKMaxx website is a new discovery for me (Behind the times as always) and I'm going to admit that on a cold indoorsy day last week I may have gone a little crazy and done some shopping:

All Saints necklace. RRP £65. I paid £14.99.

Rock & Republic Sunglasses. RRP £210. I paid £29.99.

Ashwood leather jacket. RRP ££189. I paid £49.99.

I mentioned back in January that I was looking for the perfect leather jacket, and this is it! I wasn't expecting it to be, because I hadn't tried it on, but I took the chance and I'm glad I did. It looks amazing and the leather is so soft: prepare to see it in future posts. A lot. The necklace is much chunkier than it looks in the photograph, and it will look fab teamed with simple tops and fine knit sweaters. And as for the sunglasses? Yes, I know I already have half a dozen pairs, but who can resist bargain prices like that? I know I can't.....

Daily Wear: The white shirt challenge

Hi guys,

I was presented with quite a challenge when TM Lewin asked me to style one of their classic white shirts. Because of my heavy bust, I'm not much of a shirt wearer, and I almost never wear white because I think it makes me look (much) wider. In fact, I've had the shirt in my wardrobe for more than a week without any idea how I was going to wear it. I'd tried it on with a pleated skirt (and looked like a pensioner) and with jeans (and looked like a chubby American mom).

Then yesterday morning inspiration struck. I ended up throwing this outfit together in less than 10 minutes, and being really rather happy with it:

OK so I cheated and hid half the shirt, but I maintain that the outfit wouldn't work without it!

I wanted an outfit that would look great for a dinner and cocktails after work, but also work for a busy day of reasonably formal meetings. So I put the shirt on underneath my black shift dress from River Island, which has a slightly sparkly sheen. I then added a statement necklace from Oasis and my Marc by Marc Jacobs watch. I finished the look off fairly simply with my black satchel and black ankle boots.

The dress and the necklace are technically pieces I would only wear in the evening, but the crisp white shirt and sensible ankle boots made them look smarter and more appropriate for something semi formal. Like I said, I loved this look!

Themed wedding ideas: Alice in Wonderland, Casino Royale and more...

Apologies in advance that this piece is slightly off topic, but I want to talk about weddings. Yes, again! Since I shared my wedding photos last year, and the theme for the wedding the year before, I have been inundated with emails asking me to share some of my ideas on how to have a themed wedding on a budget. Given that that's exactly what we did (big wedding, small budget, buckets of creativity) I thought I'd write this post. Here are some of my favourite wedding themes, and how you could make them work on a budget:

I loved our Alice in Wonderland wedding and with the help of my trusty team (read: my mum and sisters) we managed to do alot of it ourselves. If you're looking to throw an Alice themed bash on a budget then make your local carboot sale and vintage shops your friends: this is where I sourced all 60 of my teacup favours, and all of the tea pot centre pieces. The best investment I made though was to spend £12 on two stamps: one of Alice and one of the Mad Hatter. I used these to personalise everything! My invitations, menus, table plan, and even sweet buffet all had a visit from those stamps!

If we hadn't chosen the Alice in Wonderland theme for our wedding, then we were also toying with a circus themed wedding. Again, simple ink and stamps would have been key for making this theme consistent. I am a sucker for the circus font type face too: you can download this and use it to make your own stationary.

If Mike had his way, the wedding theme would have been casino. Think card tables, poker games, dancing girls, and a Vegas-style carberet. Although it wasn't right for us, I actually love this theme idea. Your invitations could include casino chips (which could then be used as drinks tokens at your bar) and the feathers from a show girls frock would make great table decorations! This theme would probably be harder to do well on a budget though: you'd need to hire croupiers, entertainers, and all of the games tables too. I would also have wanted an Elvis impersonator! On the DIY front though, you'd be amazed at what you can do with a pack of cards. Make that the centre of the theme and get creative. I also love the cookies and cupcakes above, if you know anyone who can cook...

Daily wear: A night at Westfield London

Hi guys,
Last night, Mike and I went on an amazing date night to Westfield London. Not a place I'd normally think of to go for a date (nights out in shopping centres remind me of being a wayward teen) but actually it was fantastic, and much more grown up and sophisticated than I had expected.

I didn't dress up (as we were rushing there straight from the office) and instead wore my Topshop black jeans teamed with my Primark leopard print blouse and H&M orange coccoon coat. I accessorised with my Friis & Co satchel (c/o Sarenza), Marc Jacobs watch, and a tangle of necklaces. It was a casual and fuss-free style that suited the nature of our fuss-free date (I added make up though: even I wouldn't go out with my face looking that pale!)

We went to the Meat and Wine Co. which is an incredible steak house. The only UK branch of this restaurant is at Westfield London, and it's well worth making the visit for. Our meal was incredible! I had steak and ribs with chips which was an absolute mamouth sized portion (even I couldn't finish it) whilst Mike opted for kangaroo fillet and potato gratin. We finished off with chocolate and pistachio melt-in-the-middle chocolate puds served with pistachio icecream. It was unbelievable!

When we were stuffed to bursting point we headed to the Vue cinema in Westfield to catch a movie: The Iron Lady. As Mike and I are both staunch lefties, a friend suggested this would be like a horror film for us, but actually it was incredibly moving. Meryl Streep is one of the most amazing actresses I've seen for a long time. All in all, a well-recommended date night location: we had a fantastic time!

Shopping: My Sarenza sale picks

Long after the January sales are over and everyone is starting to talk about their new season wardrobe I have good news: The Sarenza sale is still going strong! And frankly, there's something for everyone. It's not just the left over winter boots or sparkly heels that are on offer either. There are perfect spring-like pumps and sandals to get your hands on too!

The 'wear now' ankle boots

I got these clog-style ankle boots to replace my tan clog ankle boots from Topshop: The heel has fallen off them! I am a huge convert to clogs. They are the most comfortable heels I've ever worn because they have such a high platform at the front (in relation to the height of the heel).

These will look amazing teamed with skinny jeans and my favourite leather panel leggings to ride out the rest of the winter months.

Apparently snake print is the new 'in' skin! I love animal prints in their many different forms, so I just couldn't resist these. They'll be perfect for livening up my majoratively black work outfits, or clashing with pretty floral dresses when spring arrives.

Another Sarenza Ambassador Jen actually picked these up last month, and as soon as I saw them I knew I had to have them! These heels are timeless and seasonless and they really could be worn almost anywhere but the stud detailling on the heels stops them from being boring. I got these to team with a simple tea dress for my nephew's Christening next month.

Frugal February activities: Movie parties, poker nights, sunday lunch...

As part of "Frugal February" Mike and I have been organising lots of free and fun activities at home. Just because you're saving money doesn't mean you have to live like hermits and never see your friends, right?!

First we had a couple of friends round for Sunday dinner. Aside from the cost of the joint of meat, Sunday lunch is a surprisingly inexpensive meal to make: and easy to do too! It was a great and relaxing way to spend a couple of hours catching up with friends, which is something we'd usually do at the pub, but at half the price!

This weekend we organised a small poker night, using up all of the left over beer and wine we didn't drink at Christmas. The slight flaw in the otherwise-cunning plan, of course, is that I don't actually know how to play poker. In fact, the closest I get to even thinking about poker is when I'm humming along to Lady Gaga's poker face. Mike has tried to explain the rules to me several times: what risks to take, what makes a good hand. But I just don't get it! (I do however play a mean game of Pontoon!) So what really happened is that other people played poker whilst I sat in the corner drinking wine and gossiping: a great night had all round!

Next weekend my little sister is coming to stay with my nephew. This means that we can't go out anyway (without finding and paying for a babysitter). So I am going to organise a movie night: Clueless, Ten things I hate about you, Never been kissed....the list of chick flicks we want to watch is almost endless. The left over Christmas candy will come in handy here (yup, I still have loads) as will my rarely-used popcorn machine.

Frugal February

Hi guys,
As I mentioned back in January, all of my New Year's Resolutions revolved around saving money. I've been shopping (who can resist the January sales?) but not half as much as usual. And as the accompanying image to this post illustrates, I've taken my packed lunch to work every day (bar two slip ups, when the extra ten minutes in bed was just too tempting!) These little changes mean I've been able to add an extra £200 to my savings account.

This month though, I'm taking things up a notch: No unnecessary spending. On anything. I read about Frugal February on Big Girls Browse, and thought it was such a good idea that I joined up immediately. Frugal February participants stick to one simple rule, which is…
I vow, for one month from 1st Feb, to avoid shopping for anything other than essentials.

And no, new shoes, red lipstick, and that little dress you spotted at 75% off don't count as essentials. I've stocked up on my basic toiletries and filled our fridge and freezer. Instead of socialising at expensive bars and restaurants, Mike and I have invited our friends to our house this month for movie nights, Sunday lunches, and we've even organised a boozy games night.

I know it will be hard to avoid post-work cocktails, too-lazy-to-cook take aways, and especially the new season collections that are hitting the stores. But I know when we finally own our own home it will be worth it. And I'm excited to see how much money I can save!

Get ready for spring with very.co.uk

Hi guys,

On Friday I made a flying visit to check out newest Spring/Summer offerings from very.co.uk. They are fast coming into their own, and could soon challenge ASOS as a one stop online shopping destination.

As a fashion blogger I probably shouldn't say this, but I'm always reluctant about shopping online when I don't know what the fabric or quality of the garment will be. I'm so tactile that I just can't bear to wear cheap fabrics against my skin. My mind was definitely put to rest on that front where Very is concerned though: I was very impressed!

These two floor length dresses are from the new LoveLabel Luxe range: higher end pieces from Very's own brand LoveLabel range. The gold sequinned dress is show stopping. It was the first piece to grab everyone's eyes as they entered the room.

I surprised myself by liking several pieces from ranges I wouldn't normally look at: the cobalt blue dress with the pleated skirt is from the Coleen Rooney range (there was also a buttery soft leather jacket in her range that I loved) And the red dress shown above is by DeeVee (Diana Vickers). It's definitely on my 'must have' list: I can't resist tunic dresses and Sixties details.

I'm still trying to save money by not hitting the shops (I'm especially avoiding impulse-based, trend-led purchases). Which is a shame. Because I think my money would be in serious danger on this website.....

Hi guys,

Do you remember your first love? Aside from chocolate biscuits, mine was a chap called Andy from Rotherham (yup, it's all glamour for me).

I was fifteen years old, and I thought he was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. I even thought the fact he came from Rotherham made him mysterious and exotic: oh the deluded power of love! When we broke up I thought I would never recover. We were the Romeo and Juliet of the North, and there was no way to get over it: for a month or two at least, until boyfriend number two came along!

Aside from to make you all cringe, why am I sharing my puppy love stories? Because of Dr Martens new campaign: #Firstandforever. They're inviting people to tell them about their firsts: first love, first heartbreak, first pair of Dr Martens....

I popped along for a sneak preview of the new campaign video last night, featuring Agyness Deyn looking unfeasibly beautiful. And now you can see it too. I promise this video will make you wish you were fifteen again:

I still remember my first pair of Dr Martens. They were shoes, not boots: black and clunky and ugly as hell. Especially when teamed with my gangly teenage legs! But I loved them: just as much as I love my chunky boots now. At least that's one love that did survive!!

TKMaxx Bridal: If only they'd invented it sooner!

Hi guys,
Do you ever see something awesome, but way after you needed it? Like the perfect swimming costume two days after you get back from your summer holiday. Or the perfect present for your mum three weeks after her birthday. Well that's how I felt when I saw the new wedding boutique launched by TKMaxx.

TKMaxx have added a wedding shop to their site, selling everything you'd need (fashion-wise) to have the perfect wedding. Think gorgeous wedding dresses, with prices starting from £39.99, bridal shoes, Mother of the Bride outfits, and bridesmaid's dresses. Believe me, when I was looking for my bridesmaid's dresses, this would have saved my life. Who says getting married has to break the bank, right?

To prove it I created outfits for the bride, the bridesmaid, and the mother of the bride, all from TKMaxx, with each outfit costing less than £100!!

I love the short lace-embellished wedding dress (which would be perfect if you were looking for an evening wedding dress you can dance in). I also really like the gold bridesmaid dress, which is so versatile and could be worn over and over for so many events.

If you've got a wedding coming up this year then why not check it out? We're attending two this summer, so I plan on popping down and seeing if they have as great a range of guest-wear too....

Shapewear from Gok Wan and Simply Yours

Hi guys,

I've been singing the praises of Gok Wan's shapewear for years (I first reviewed it back in 2009). So I was delighted when I was invited to check out Gok's latest shapewear collection, and him in person.

This is Gok's 8th collection for Simply Yours, which consists of six pieces: the multi-way Banger Booster bra, the Pull Me in Pants, the Curve Controller body, the Slicker Knicker, the Sassy Slip and the Divine Outline multi-way slip. All six styles are available in 3 gorgeous colours: Crush, Sweet Slate and Blush.

I asked the man himself what his inspiration for the collection was. Gok said he'd gone back to basics with this range (which definitely oozed old-school Hollywood glamour). He also said he'd tailored it to real women's needs: and with the seamless panels, boning, and amazing structure that was easy to see.

When asked why he decided to design his shape wear collection, Gok said: "I just think it's really important that every woman deserves to look and feel truly fabulous, regardless of her budget, size and shape."

I think Gok probably has the best job in the world, so curiosity led me to ask him what he loved most about it. He said:"It probably sounds a bit cheesy but it's about helping others and inspiring them. I think the main obvious point is making women feel wonderful and fabulous about themselves. Seeing them transform from a very shy, insecure person to being vibrant, and confident and happy just because they have a brand new look! "

And for all you mummies out there (inspired by my sisters, who are both new mums) I also asked Gok for his thoughts on shapewear for mums. He said: "Over the last nine months your body has changed, because you've made a beautiful baby. You need to embrace your new body because there's a reason why it has changed. But if you want to create a silhouette that you are used to then maybe try shape wear instead of beating yourself up about your changed body and the way you look." Frankly that's not just advice for mums, that's advice for everyone!

I really loved the collection. And I think now is the perfect time to launch it: spring/summer is fast approaching, and if you're going to reveal a hint of bra under a strapping summer dress, you want it to be as pretty as these! Why should shape wear just come in black, white, or that horrible flesh colour anyway?

Just 10 minutes with Gok left me smitten. I can't decide what I love more: Gok or his shapewear. But he can rifle through my knicker drawer anytime!

January according to my iPhone

Hi guys,
Taking pictures of everything seems to be a cultural endemic: especially if you're a blogger. There's a reason the iPhone comes equipped with such a good camera! No shopping trip, lunch or cupcake is left unsnapped, and I'm just as guilty. If I think something looks good, interesting, or just worth sharing with my husband I whip out my phone and pap it! So I thought it would be fun to pick out some of my iPhone pictures from the month and share them with you.

This month I:
-Made chocolate brownies and ate ice cream in Harrods (diet be damned!)
-Cut my own fringe. And I'm getting pretty good at it!
-Lusted after all of the chintzy homewares at the M&S press day
-Picked up plenty of bargains in the sales
-Fell in love with baby Bertie (my nephew) all over again
-Tried on 6 different white shirts at TM Lewin.

What have you been up to this month? Anything exciting?

These aren't just any Valentines gifts....These are M&S Valentine's gifts!

Hi guys,
I always say that I'm not a big fan of Valentine's day. Who needs a special day to show someone you care about them, right? Having said that, if I didn't get a card I'd be gutted. Hypocrite, much!?

It's a fact that Valentine's day presents are usually pretty tacky (and as a general rule not great quality). Not true at M&S though, who's Valentine's offering I went to check out yesterday:

The heart bra set is traditional valentine's fare, but still devillishy pretty (and the fabric is a luxe-feeling satin). The stand out underwear set for me though was the gorgeous floral cotton longline bra and matching high rise briefs: this set has universal appeal that will last long after valentines day. And call me boring and practical, but because it's from M&S, at least you know if will wash well over and over again. And it's all available now.

Aside from the standard cakes and chocolates (always yummy!) the other gifts I loved were the household ones. Practical and pretty, who doesn't want a heart shaped cake mould or terrine? This Valentine's day I think I'll fill the house with pink and red kitsch and just finally embrace it. It's all too pretty not to!

Sneak peak: Primark S/S12 Collections

Hi guys,
It's cold. In fact, it's colder than cold. The sudden drop in temperature means that not only am I wearing a hat, scarf, and gloves, I'm also wearing a coatigan under my coat and tights under my leggings! But that doesn't mean I don't want to indulge in a little 'when it's warmer' fantasy, and look at some gorgeous S/S collections....

Whatever your stance on Primark, they always make their look books look amazing. The clothes are always bang on trend, massively wearable, and affordable too. Although I have noticed an increase in prices throughout the store: dresses that would have been £10-12 are now £17. It's still not a massive amount of money for a new dress, but I do hope as prices increase the quality continues to as well.

As well as having an amazing selection of women's wear (who can argue after seeing the pictures above) they also stock gorgeous menswear, homewares, and kids' clothes too. I'm slightly obsessed with buying clothes for my niece at the moment, and often pop to Primark. I also love Emma Bunton's new kidswear range for Argos - particularly her girls clothing - and H&M have a too-cool-for-school selection too.

Dailywear: Sixties leopard print

Hi guys,
Another weekend has flown by and it's goodbye pajamas and comfy hooded tops, hello work clothes, once again! I know it's not a very fashionable thing to admit, but comfort is always my main priority when choosing what to wear: once I'm dressed I don't like to think about my clothes or feel restricted by them.

Today I've managed to combine an outfit that feels loose and comfortable and looks great at the same time: a double win!

I'm slightly in love with this Jarlo dress: it's double layered chiffon (making it seriously flattering) and it flares in a gorgeous Sixties style. Admittedly, it's very very short, but with leggings that really doesn't matter. The best thing is how versatile it is: with my boots it looks amazing during the day, but it would look just as fabulous for the evening teamed with heels and lipstick. It's from our newest Fabfrocks sponsor, a lovely brand called FashionPony, and it's been reduced in the sale to £48.

I've teamed it with my Primarni Owl necklace, Friis & Co bag, and knee high riding boots from Next. Actually I got these from the Next outlet store (called Choice) where they were reduced to £24.75. I never normally wear tall boots, but I think these ones look fab!

Daily wear: Boyish charm

Hi guys,
I'm really enjoying this January's warmer approach to winter, which has meant for the past week I have been able to leave my winter accessories at home. Don't get me wrong I love my hats, but I also love not having frizzy hair when I get to the office!

As a general rule I'm far to curvy for the masculine trend, but today I'm looking quite boyish, and I like it! Time to invest in a bowtie, perhaps?

Today i'm wearing my new coat from Miss Selfridges, my favourite dress from River Island (I just wish it was more flattering!) my Moschino brogues, a stack of jewellery, and my Betty Jackson Black satchel.

I normally wear bangles religiously, but I picked up these leather wrist wraps at the Topshop outlet this weekend, and have been experimenting with them. I actually really like the way they look, and they have the added bonus of not constantly bashing against the keyboard when I type. Result!

But this year, maybe because of the warmer than average weather and maybe because half of the country is flat broke, there are still a ton of bargains to be had. Some stores are advertising up to 70% off, and almost every high street store is offering further reductions. If you aren't in the flat broke half of the nation then hit the shops, because you're in for a treat! Here are my picks:

Miss Selfridges has an amazing sale. I picked up this gorgeous leather (actually pleather) sleeved coat for just £30, and it's still available on their website. It looks so much better on than it does off - in a soft lightweight fabric and an amazing fit. I'll be showing it off soon!

As well as having up to 75% off all of their sale, all of French Connection's sale coats are now £89 or less. My tip would be to look for a classic style in a colour you love, so that you can buy and wear it now, but still wear and love it again next winter too: that way, you're actually saving money!

Daily Wear: A Casual Saturday

Hi guys,
I haven't posted an outfit post for weeks; mostly because over Christmas, all of my outfits have consisted of pajamas or hubby's cozy oversized jumpers. I defy anyone to look fashionable whilst watching movies and stuffing their faces with Quality Street!

Today is another casual day (no hair, no make up, no effort!) but at least I'm wearing clothes, as we popped out to check out the sales:

Today I'm wearing my orange cocoon coat from H&M, Topshop leather panel leggings, Moschino shoes, blue Primark blouse, Friis & co handbag, and beloved Marc Jacobs watch. I'm delighted by how well the new Moschino shoes match my studded handbag: a dream combo.

I love this coat, which I picked up from the H&M in Selfridges just before Christmas. I love their H&M concession: they pick all of the best pieces, which means I always want every single thing, and don't have to sift through the rails looking for the good stuff!

The George party dress challenge

Hi guys,
Christmas and New Year are over, and for the highstreet that means party dresses are massively discouted, because we should all be thinking about our summer holidays not sequins. I've never understood why party clothes aren't popular in January: the lack of Christmas sparkle doesn't mean our diaries aren't full of fabulous dress-worthy events for 2012.

So when George (of Asda fame) got in touch and asked me to take a frock from their fab collection of evening dresses, then show you guys how I would style it, I jumped at the chance.

I'm not really the kind of gal that dresses up: I love sequins and glitter and lace and other evening clothes, but I always tend to dress them down. Which is exactly what I did with this outfit:

I was sent a cream lace dress with a Peter Pan collar. I wanted to show that partywear can be perfect for any occasion, so I wore it for afternoon tea at the Cadogen hotel with my mum and sisters, followed by a spot of shopping in Harrods.

I teamed it with my cropped leather jacket from Primark, Friis & Co boots (c/o Sarenza), Betty Jackson Black satchel and Vivienne Westwood scarf. I think this is the perfect way to take a dress that wouldn't look out of place at a cocktail party, and make it work for a daytime event.

Shoe love: the perfect brogues

Hi guys,
I may not be dancing around my living room like a far-too-chirpy penguin, but I have definitely got Happy Feet! My new Love Moschino brogues with the heart stud details from Sarenza have just arrived, and I am completely in love with them!

They were reduced by 30% in the sale, making them £160 rather than £229. And I don't think it would be an exageration to say they are my dream shoes. Although I love them, the fact is that I rarely wear heels during the day anymore: I just can't stand the discomfort when my day is already too busy and full of other things to think about. I tend to slip into my black pumps that match everything, but aren't exactly fashion-forward. So these comfortable brogues covered in attention grabbing gold heart-shaped studs (perfect for matching to all my jewellery and my two favourite handbags) are guarenteed to fit into my wardrobe perfectly, and make my everyday feet look a little more fashionable.

One of the best things about getting new shoes is mentally shopping your wardrobe for things you can team with them to create the perfect outfit and show them off!

I for one, will be very disappointed when the trend for masculine footwear disappears. Why should boys get all the comfy feet fun?! It's lovely to be able to run for the bus or spend hours scooting around the shops without having to worry about my ankles aching, or worse still, breaking them!

As I said in my New Year's resolution post, I have far too many clothes: lovely, beautiful clothes. And shoes. And handbags. And....well, you get the idea! There are clothes that don't fit me any more, clothes that I've loved for years , and shoes that are so high I've never worn them: just looked at them and sighed. So I have decided to reopen the Fabfrocks shop and clear some space in my wardrobe!

Fabfrocks at Home loves....Johan Potma

Hi guys,
When we are in Berlin last month, Mike and I interspersed our site seeing with visits to endless markets: both Christmas and otherwise. It was a wonderful way to spend a weekend, and I brought home far more than I should have.

One of the best things I brought home though was the picture above: it made me laugh, and I don't know about your house but in ours it's true too: we can never seem to pair our socks!

It's a print by Johan Potma, who is a Dutch painter and illustrator who lives and works in Berlin. Johan co-owns the Zozoville gallery in Berlin, and has worked with Pepsi, Playboy, and Nickelodeon. I love the way all of his illustrations have so much personality:

I admit they're a little geeky, and furry monsters aren't to everyone's taste. But I only paid 10 Euros for my print, which was a ridiculous bargain. And I like them so much, if I'd had the room and the wall space, I'd have brought home a couple more!

Top tips for January Sales shopping

Hi guys,

Ahhh, it's that time of the year again! Not content with our Christmas consumerism, it's time to buy everything we didn't buy at Christmas, but at huge discounts. And use those Buy.com promotional codes before they expire! And who am I to argue with that?

In line with my money saving drive, I'm not hitting the sales in the mad way I usually do: instead I'm just looking for the perfect leather jacket at a huge discount (fingers crossed!!) But if you are looking to hit the sales with gusto, here are my top tips:

1. Make a wish list. Going into the sales without any idea of what you really want to buy means that you'll end up buying everything pretty thing you see, but probably don't need (and if you're anything like me then instantly regret it). Instead make a list of things you want and need. Make sure these are things you would buy at full price anyway, and fit in with your existing wardrobe. Remember that 50% off something you don't need it actually a waste of money!

2. Set a budget. And then stick to it! I know it's easier said than done, but when you hit the sales it's easy to forget how much you're spending, and spend much more than you wanted to. When I'm going sales shopping I take out the amount I'm prepared to spend in cash before I hit the shops: that way, I know exactly what I'm spending as I go (it's so easy to lose track with cards) and when it's gone, it's gone!

3. Don't forget to look online, but don't expect it to be simple. Sure, you don't have to queue to try things on, or wait for the shops to open in the rain, but you still have to be fast and organised. Once you've found something you want to buy, if you don't get to the online checkout fast enough, several stores will remove the item from your basket if another customer wants to buy it (I'm thinking of you River Island!) So being speedy and methodical are key: having accounts set up with the companies you want to shop with will make the process even faster.

4. Finally, don't give up! If you've got your heart set on something but it's sold out don't give up: just think outside the box. If you really wanted French Connection shoes but can't get them from French Connection, for example, try Sarenza or Zalando or any other website that sells big brand names. And for high street clothes, ASOS is a veritable gold mine of sale items that have sold out elsewhere: it's where I got that River Island dress I wanted last January that was sold out on their website!

Happy New Year! Let's make promises we won't keep!

Hi guys,

Happy New Year! I always like New Year: it feels like being reborn, and you get the chance to change your life and try again. Having said that, I make half-hearted resolutions every year, but they never last more than a fortnight. That probably means there isn't anything I dislike enough about my life to really make an effort to change!

This year though, I am making three small resolutions that will make a massive difference to my bank balance: helping contribute towards the bigger resolution of significantly bumping up our savings account in 2012.

- No more impulse purchases. I own more clothes than any three people would need in a lifetime. And I know I can't resolve to give up shopping: I love it too much and I don't have the willpower! But I am resolving to think about my purchases, and only buy things I need, will use, and will fit into my existing wardrobe. No more Primark sprees for things I don't need, or popping into Topshop at lunchtime when I'm having a bad day!

- Taking sandwiches to work. OK, so I know it's not fashion-related, but I would recommend this to anyone trying to save some pennies! Do you know I spend approx £150 a month on lunch? And I'm not talking fabulous lunches: I mean soggy sandwiches or soups, crisps and fruit from Pret or Eat. When you can buy more than a week's worth of apples for £1, why would you buy just one from a Sandwich shop for 50p? I reckon taking my own lunches can save over £100 a month! For inspiration, use cute, colorful food containers to pack your lunch, which are often on sale.

- Regular wardrobe clear-outs. Sometimes my wardrobe gets so overcrowded, I can't see the wood from the trees and it makes it impossible to decide what to wear everyday (because all I can see are the things that don't fit/I don't like). So I intend to make regular wardrobe clear-outs great not only for my sartorial style, I also plan on making them great for my bank balance. Think car boot sales, ebaying, and maybe even the return of the Fabfrocks Shop!

Fabfrocks loves: Statement rings

Hi guys,

I love chunky statement rings: it's the one piece of jewellery I throw on every day, and even if I'm just wearing jeans and a jumper, it makes me feel 'fashion-y'. What I don't love though are green fingers that look like you're suffering from an acute case of gangrene: which is what happens whenever I wear the aforementioned statement rings.

If I buy them from Topshop or Accessorize, I'm looking if I get 4-5 wears from each ring before my finger starts to look rotten. From Primark I can only wear a ring once or twice before people start wondering if I need to visit a hospital.

So my (mini) New Year's Resolution is to give up the cheap finger furniture. Have fewer pieces of better quality plated jewellery and fingers that look pink.

The beetle ring is by Kenneth Jay Lane. I got it in the Harvey Nicks sale just before Christmas, reduced from £115 to £32. The Juicy Couture flower ring (chavvy brand I know, but I do like their jewellery) was reduced to £29 in Bicester Village yesterday. In fact, Bicester Village yesterday was mayhem, but their were some amazing further reductions to be had!

If I can I'd like to get one more ring in a plain gold to add to my collection, so that I can wear it with anything. But my focus is definitely on quality rather than quantity, for a change. And my fingers have never been happier!

Christmas: Lovely luxuries

Hi guys,

Well, Christmas is sadly over, although I'm not ready to hide the Quality Street tin just yet! I've had a fantastic Christmas. For me, Christmas is all about little luxuries. Having Harrods cheese instead of the usual Cathedral City (thanks Mum!), eating your body weight in yummy chocolates, wearing my favourite perfumes everyday (am I the only one that normally has a cheaper everyday perfume?), and having calorie laden snacks whenever you want them, guilt free!

Speaking of luxuries, I have received some seriously luxurious gifts:

I was treated to a new Steve Madden cover for my ipad, the Marc Jacobs watch I added to my Christmas gift list (the hints work!), two perfume gift sets, some gorgeous candles, Betsey Johnson pajamas and slippers, a new leather filofax (I couldn't live without mine), a Vivienne Westwood purse, a Lanvin pen, and much much more.

And the biggest luxury of all this Christmas? Taking time out without focusing on work, to just spend with my family. Especially the smallest member of all: meet little Bertie, who's just 7 weeks old! I am one very proud aunt!

I know I'm biased, but that is one seriously beautiful baby boy!

Fabfrocks at Home: Decorating for Christmas

Hi guys,
It's that time of the year again! When I look out my window I can see the soft glow of Christmas tree lights in almost every flat and house around me: people are preparing for the big day, and so are we. My Christmas tree has been up for weeks! I love Christmas and I love decorating my house for Christmas: it's a relaxing ritual that prepares you and your home for the craziness to come!

My tree isn't exactly traditional: it's more of an eclectic mish-mash of all the things I like: hence the lights shaped like rabbits (a steal at just £5 from a local carboot sale) the skull and deer baubles (both available from Paperchase) and the ice cream cone bauble from Harrods. I think it's more important that you love each bauble or that they mean something that that everything matches.

As well as decorating my tree I also decorate my table. I have a big red Christmas table cloth, an Advent ring as my centre piece, Christmas place mats, and even salt and pepper shakers shaped like Santa! In the kitchen I have a Christmas dinner service (covered in Polar bears) and two sets of Christmas mugs (you can pick up similar ones from Debenhams if you're feeling inspired!)
Finally in a new addition for this Christmas, I built a sleigh using a cardboard box and some red and silver wrapping paper. We're hosting Christmas for the first time this year, meaning 6 people will be squeezed into my two bedroom flat. As well as looking fantastic (and perfect for my nephew's first Christmas) it has a practical function too: it will keep all the presents organised and in one place, rather than spread all over the house when we're so space-restricted!

The return of the Christmas jumper!

Hi guys,
It's beginning to feel alot like Christmas! My family are arriving from 'tup 'North over the next couple of days, all my presents are wrapped and under the tree, and I've already eaten my body weight in mince pies! I cannot wait for the big day to arrive!

Even my outfits are taking a Christmassy turn. Today I am wearing my new Louche Gnome jumper from Zalando (Pictured above: although personally I think the gnome looks like Santa and so I refer to it as my Santa jumper) I've become slightly obsessed with online shopping lately (what's the point in going outside to get wet and cold when you can shop from your PC?) and Zalando is a new favourite! I also have a red santa apron, red jeans, and an army of red tops and cream knits to keep the festive theme going!

I've always loved Christmas jumpers, being the Christmas obsessive I am, but I've also always accepted that they're a bit naff. Sartorially speaking though, they're making a bit of a comeback this season. Christmas jumpers are everywhere!

Need a budget Christmas party dress? Think Primark!

Hi guys,
I know we're in the middle of a recession and times are tight, and restyling and reusing are very cool and fashionable. Whilst blatent consumerism just isn't. And I do reuse, and buy second hand, and even customise to save money. But, for me at least, Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without a brand new party frock!

If you agree and are dying to buy a new dress for the party season, but have a miniscule mice-sized budget, then I would recommend checking out Primark. They have an amazing range of budget partywear in store at the moment that doesn't look like it's been bought on a budget. Think simple shapes and styles in plain block colours that are just dying to be teamed with killer heels and your favourite accessories:

Daily wear: Bobble up!

Hi guys,
Since the weather turned colder, I have been wearing my jeans more than ever before: someone could challenge the name of this blog under the trade descriptions act, because I'm now only wearing frocks a couple of times a week!

Jeans are just so easy to throw on and know that you'll be warm enough, whatever Jack Frost has in store for the weather that day! Just add a blouse and a cardigan or jumper and you're ready to go: which is why this has become my newest work uniform. I now own more blouses and knitwear than ever before:

The blouse is from Clothing at Tesco, the jeans are Topshop, and the boots are Rocket Dog, c/o Sarenza. I loved this bargain Tesco blouse (just £14) so much that I ordered it in navy blue too.

I love my outdoor clothes: coats and hats are a minor obsession. I think people often underestimate the importance of a good coat, and the difference it makes to your outfit in wintertime: I couldn't imagine owning just one! This coat is from Next, and the bobble hat is Topshop. Whenever I'm wearing a really plain or simple outfit like this one, I always add my leopard print coat: it's perfect for bringing colour, pattern and texture to what otherwise is a fairly snooze-worthy look.

Do you find your style changes alot with the seasons? I wouldn't dream of wearing trousers if the sun was shining, but now I'm never out of them!

Beautiful Berlin!

Hi guys,

As I mentioned last week, I just spent four wonderful days in Berlin exploring the city and visiting as many Christmas markets as possible. If you need a little help in feeling festive, I heartily recommend visiting a German Christmas Market (they're held all over the country if you don't want to make the trek to the Continent) and just soaking up the atmosphere. Think beautiful handicrafts and wonderful smelling foods, whilst warming yourself up with a glass of hot spiced cider (my favourite!)

I couldn't resist the beautiful Christmas decorations and ornament stalls. If I could have fit it all in my suitcase, I would've redecorated my whole house, just for the festive season! The wooden decorations and wooden toys in particular were beautifully well made and would make amazing presents. There were also stalls selling hats and scarfs in beautiful knits and faux fur: I fell in love with a fur and tweed muff, but sadly they didn't have it in the colour I wanted. I did however buy a glass bauble shaped like a crocodile dandy for my tree, and a traditional Nutcracker.

As well as overindulging at the markets (nutella and marzipan crepes are my latest food obsession) we also explored the city and its museums. Mike and I are both history buffs, so trips to the Topographies of Terror, The Holocaust memorial, The Sauchenheusen concentration camp (which is just 30km away from Berlin) and of course Checkpoint Charlie and the Wall were essential. Berlin is a city rich in history, and most of the museums are free or have only a minimal entry charge, making it the perfect way to bring everything you read about in your school textbooks to life.
My outfits from the trip don't make a particularly exciting post: It was so cold that I wore an oversized black jumper over each outfit, then covered that up with my coat, Vivienne Westwood scarf, fur hat, and mittens. I wore this every single day!

It was one of the best short trips I've ever been on, and if you're looking for a winter getaway that doesn't involve any winter sports, then Berlin would definitely be my first choice.

Little black dresses: Yes, I’m an addict!

Hi guys,
I love little black dresses: I have a wardrobe full of them, and I just keep adding more!

I have a black dress for every occasion. There's my black dress that I wear for work meetings (guarenteed to make you feel good when you're having a fat day), my favourite black party dress, my staple black dress that looks good when it's accessorised to the max, and even my slinky black dress that I wear when I want to go dancing or to an online casino (not that I'm one for gambling). Seriously: there's nothing the right black dress can't do!

And I refuse to accept that black dresses are boring: they may be classic, but they can also be fashion-forward. Just think about the all-black collections that Gareth Pugh sends down the catwalk every season!

The key to choosing the perfect black dress is getting the fit right: it needs to hug your figure in all the right places, and emphasise all your favourite bits of your body (whilst minimising the bits you want to hide, of course!) Choosing the right fabric is important too. Satin can be unforgiving on anyone without a model figure, whilst jersey, cotton, and tulle are my favourite fabrics for the perfect LBD.

I intend to dust down my favourite French Connection black dress this month, and take it out for a spin! I've never been to a UK casino before, but I am going to a casino night with friends during that funny bit between Christmas and New Year: obviously I will have overindulged, but hopefully I will be able to slip into that slinky little black dress and a stack of costume jewellery (whilst insisting Mike wears a tux, of course) and party the night away!

Festive fun at Bicester Village

Hi guys,

Well my love of Bicester Village is well documented. Some of my favourite things are from there; including my Vivienne Westwood scarf (which I've worn every day for the last 3 months, making its cost-per-wear almost zero) and my Mulberry notebook. Last time we were there I went knitwear crazy, buying a lovely metallic cardigan from Karen Millen and a jumper with fur sleeves from French Connection. And don't even get me started on the Cath Kidston outlet: it's like heaven!!

Mike and I have already made our festive trip to Bicester, and picked up fab presents for everyone on our list. (Sadly those people read this site, so I can't ruin it by sharing more details!) It's such a lovely place to go at Christmas: they have lights, late night opening, and The Christmas Tree House, which is serving warm mulled wine: Yummy! I think the right Christmassy atmosphere is so important when you're doing your Christmas shopping: it helps keep you motivated when your feet start to get tired!

Behold my beautiful new Christmas shoes! They're gorgeous, they're wonderful, they're covered in tiny little silver stars, and I love them:

I have alot of Christmas parties, events, and gatherings to go to this year and I just don't have the tolerance to wear heels for several evenings in a row (I just love my feet too much to torture them too frequently) so I picked these Georgia Rose brogues as my flat party shoe alternative. The Debenhams Spring/Summer press day

Hi guys,

It's time to intersperse the Christmas posts with another glimpse into the future; by which I mean, the clothes we'll be wearing next Spring!

I'm a big fan of Debenhams, especially their designer collaborations. I always love the H! by Henry Holland range (look out for the cute vintage style tea dress in the new collection) and all of the Editions designers, though my favourite is Preen.

Firstly, can I get a collective 'Oooh' for all the colours? I'm not really a big fan of pastels, so I'm delighted to report that this is the third S/S press day I've been to in the past fortnight where bold bright colours have been at the fore.

I loved the vintage 1950s-inspired swimwear (especially that blue swimsuit with the gorgeous bird print on it) and in a move not like me, I also liked the more mature Betty Jackson Black collection: think the blue coat over the patterned dress in the first image.

My favourite part of the whole press day though was the homeware collections, especially the new Editions @ Home range (complete with new designers) that is being introduced this Spring. In fact, I loved them so much I'm going to save them and show you the whole collection as soon as it launches.....

My favourite Christmas party dresses

In the famous words of Noddy Holden; It's Chrriistmaaasss!!! Yes, the tree is up in our house and I've already started wrapping presents and hiding them under the tree. In fashion terms, that can mean only one thing: it's time to find the perfect Christmas party dress. Despite the fact I'd much rather stay at home on a Saturday night (sad but true) I love party dresses and have far too many of them, so finding the perfect frock is one of my favourite things about Christmas.

Here are some of the finest party dresses I've discovered so far, during my many hours of trawling through the interwebs. Of course, I'll always opt for the blackest dress I can find (I'm nothing if not predictable) but if you're more adventurous than me, this is a great season for colour:

The great big surgery debate

Hi guys,
Everyone has body hang ups. I have good days and bad days, but I’m not unaware of the fact that I am round in the middle and I have bingo wings that still shake long after my arms are still. It’s just that I’m accepting of them, if not actually in love with them! Which I think is why I find debates about plastic surgery so interesting (especially those infamous and judgmental stories you read on the Daily Mail).

I’d like to say I’d never consider cosmetic surgery but it’s not quite true. Just before my wedding I spent hours researching laser liposuction, only to ultimately make the decision that it just wasn’t for me. Aside from the expense (which would have meant I would've had to have a much smaller wedding dress) and my wimpish fear of any pain, I made the decision that I want to be happy with what I’ve got, flaws and all, no matter how hard that seems some days! That's in part why I started this blog: to show that people who love fashion come in all different shapes and sizes.

Everyone creates fantasy surgery lists (or at least, my friends and I do after we've had a couple of drinks!) A spot of lipo here, a chin implant there (just me?!), rhinoplasty, and more work on boobs than you can bear to think about!

Of course, that's all it is: a fantasy. Everyone says they'd have all the surgery in the world, but in reality, I don't actually think I know anyone that would go through with it.

But that doesn’t mean I’m anti-plastic surgery. I think for some people, it’s the right decision to make. If you spend your life being so unhappy with something about your body that it affects your relationships both with other people and yourself, then what's the harm in changing it? If you can afford it, and it will enrich your life in some way, that's an individual decision. Unless you get addicted and start to look like Katie Price, of course. That's a whole other story....

Daily wear: Wrapping up for winter

Hi guys,
I am currently in the middle of a horrible flu (hence my slightly zombie-like face) so decided that wrapping up warm in lots of faux fur was the only solution. I love the layering possibilities you get with winter dresssing, and took full advantage today by teaming a cardigan with my leather jacket, then throwing my new jewel collared gilet on top:

Whenever i'm ill I very lazily just throw on jeans and a top: the effort of putting tights on is all too much! These jeans are from Topshop, the top is Primark. The bag (which is covered in gold studs underneath) is Friis & Co, and the gilet with the awesome jewel collar is Cynthia Rowley: both from TKMaxx. The leather jacket underneath is my trusty River Island one.

The Jonak brown ankle boots are my new favourite boots in the world, c/o Sarenza. I love the gold detailing at the toe, and they have a low heel meaning they look smart, but aren't too high that I couldn't wear them all day: perfect!

I love this super cozy outfit: perfect for casual chilly days. We're going to Berlin for four days on Friday: I think this outfit will definitely be making the cut to come with me!

River Island S/S preview

Hi guys,
This morning I popped to the River Island S/S press day. Now you all know I'm a massive fan of River Island, and I get half of my dresses from there (they fit my shape like a dream) so I was especially excited to see what I would be wearing next season. Prepare for a picture heavy post:

These two pieces were from the Sugar collection: the most overtly feminine trend and my favourite one! It featured lots of lovely pastels, chiffons, applique flowes, and all of the fabrics were floaty and sheer. Some of these tops and dresses were just made to be toughened up with denim and leather: perfect!

The collection was divided into 6 trends: Miami, Spring Break, Prairie, Ehtnic, Purist, and Sugar.

The acid brights and extrovert patterns of the Miami trend were the most eyecatching (and looked the best in photographs too) although not to my personal tastes. I did however love all the beaded and embellished accessories of the ethnic trend: that oversized beaded bag has my name written all over it!

As I sit here typing, wearing a sea of black and smothered in cozy knitwear, I'm already beginning to see the appeal of a new lighter, brighter Spring wardrobe!

The Selfridges Christmas windows 2011

Hi guys,

Today is the first day that I have felt really Christmassy this year! First Reena (of Fashion Daydreams) invited me to the opening of the ice skating at Somerset House where we skated, drank hot chocolate, and ate yummy Tiffany's cupcakes. Then we indulged in my favourite Christmas retail experience: looking at the gorgeous Selfridges Christmas window display.

I have to say, the displays were much more minimalist this year than in previous years. In lieu of last year's moving Santas, this year each window was white, with a mixture of angels, reindeer, and much more emphasis on fashion:

Although I loved all of the white dresses and lust-worthy silver accessories, I have to say the sophisticated Christmas just isn't for me! My tree at home is covered in sequinned pink and purple decorations, and I love Christmas because it's the one time of year everything can be bright, garish, and tasteless. In a world where taste is everything, Christmas is like a blessed relief. I say bring back the pantomime theme of 2009: it was my absolute favourite window display of all time!

In my next journey into festivity, I will be attempting to construct a sleigh for my nephews Christmas presents using a cardboard box, some tin foil, and red sticky back plastic. I'll let you know how I get on....

Daily wear: New coat and new boots!

Hi guys,
Do you ever have one of those rare days when you leave the house and think "actually, I look pretty good today?" They don't happen to me that often (I'm more likely to have an "I hate my entire wardrobe day") but today is one of those lookin' good days!

Let's start with my yummy new boots from Sarenza; one of two pairs that arrived this week. They're by Rocketdog (not a brand I would ever normally look at) but I just fell in love with these clog ankle boots and their furry trim. They're so snug and cozy, they would be just perfect for clopming about in the snow! Until next Tuesday, Sarenza are having "7 frozen days" on their site: the cold weather is causing their prices to shrink, with discounts of up to 50% off available!

The other new aspect of my outfit is the coat which is Jonathan Saunders/Editions at Debenhams. I have admired this coat from afar for a while, but thought £115 was a little too expensive. However Debenhams are currently running their Christmas spectacular, with up to 40% off many lines, and this coat was one of them! Now just £69, I snapped it up yesterday, and I'm completely in love with it!

The rest of my outfit consists of my Betty Jackson Black satchel (also from Debenhams), a blouse and necklaces from Primark, and jeans from Topshop. Expect to see several variations of this outfit in upcoming months, because I am completely in love with it!

Is it too soon to mention Spring?

Hi guys,
If you don't want to hear about Spring already then it's time to close your eyes, because the S/S 2012 press days are well and truly in full swing: my calender for the next couple of weeks is so full of Spring events I'd be forgiven for forgetting all about Christmas! (Don't worry though, I haven't forgotten about it! I am currently constructing the mother of all gift guides!)

Last night I popped down to check out the Clothing at Tesco spring/summer collections. I'm a big fan of Clothing at Tesco: they're like Primark in that everything is so cheap they're a great place to try new trends, but at guilt-free prices.

Here are some of their new season offerings:

It's unlike me to say so, but it was the bold colours that most caught my eye: there was a red deconstructed blazer that I especially fell in love with, and plenty of mustard which always makes me happy. I also really liked the cream lace dress (in the second picture) which is just so deliciously flippy and feminine. As always the swimwear offering was also gorgeous - much to my disappointment, as it just doesn't fit my bust!

The final items that I really loved were the stripey midi-length pencil skirts (in pictures one and three). Now I confess that stripes for spring isn't particularly unique or fashion-forward, but the fabric was lovely, they looked great, and they'd be perfect teamed with simple tees for a work to play look.

I'm not ready for Spring yet (I'm too excited about Christmas, wearing my winter coat, and wrapping up in warm layers) but I am already getting some ideas about what I'll be wearing when it arrives!

In love with: The La Redoute Christmas collection

Hi guys,
Last week I was invited to Paris for the La Redoute press conference next week and I was gutted (truly gutted!) to have to say that I couldn't attend. Sob, sob, sniffle! But getting and rejecting that invitation did make me have a little peek at the La Redoute website for the first time in a little while, and for that I am a very grateful young lady, as I've just fallen in love with the La Redoute Christmas collection.

It's so refreshing to look at a brand's Christmas collection and not be confronted by an array of cheap sequins and lurex dresses. Whilst they definitely have their place (and the big Christmas dress post is coming!) actually, the festive period is about so much more than just parties: think cozy lunches, walks in the snow, and eating chocolate until you feel sick. And the La Redoute Christmas collection definitely reflects that.

I currently have a leather addiction, so I love the tan leather skirt, and have a minor obsession with the slightly shiny leather jacket: it's actually leather so smart you could wear it for work, as well as at the weekends - what's not to love?!

Grey cashmere jumper for £47.40? Erm, yes please! If I don't have one of those in my Christmas stocking next month, I will be a seriously disappointed girl! The orange Merino wool sweater is even cheaper at £31.50. It's amazing that you can find such incredible quality garments for such low prices: it just goes to show you don't always have to spend the big bucks to get the best quality.

Realistically, of course, if I was going to write a post about what we really wear at Christmas it would be full of pajamas. But when I make the effort and dress to impress over the festive period (whilst still being comfy and cozy of course) these are the kinds of outfits that I will be wishing I was wearing.

The thing about La Redoute is that it's accessible and desirable. My personal sense of style is at least ten degrees scruffier, but this is definitely the kind of look I aspire to. It's just so damn chic and French! Sigh....and if I were going to Paris next week, I'd be able to tell you about all things French first hand.....

Daily Wear: My new cropped fur jacket

Hi guys,

A quick Saturday post to share the outfit I wore today to pop for a long walk around the shops with my beautiful niece and nephew (and their mummies, of course!) I was really pleased with the way this outfit turned out, given I had less than 10 minutes to throw it together. It was the right mix of casual and fancy, if you ignore the biscuit crumbs I had lovingly rubbed into my leggings, of course:

I'm slightly in love with my new jacket, which is from AX Paris. When I picked a cropped fur jacket from the dazzlingly wide selection of dresses and jackets on their website, I envisaged myself wearing it over flippy party dresses this Christmastime; and it will look amazing with my new gold festive frock. But I've surprised myself by loving the way it looks casually too: it really smartens up blouses and leggings (my staple lazy weekend wear) and I can see myself wearing it over and over again this winter. It's super-warm, it fits like a dream, and it feels as soft as a newborn puppy too! I'm so fussy about new additions to my jacket collection, and it's not like me not to have a minor criticism or two, but I really can't think of anything negative to say.

I teamed the jacket with a long-line black vest and my leather panel leggings from Topshop, a leopard print blouse and tooth necklace from Primark, my Friis & Co satchel (c/o Sarenza) and my beaten up old clogs (also from Topshop). These clogs have been worn to death and they really need throwing away, but they're so comfortable and easy to slip on that I just can't myself to get rid of them!

I'm experimenting with growing my fringe out at the minute, but it's reaching that awful in-betweeny stage that always drives me back to the hairdressers to have the fringe cut back in. And ignore the unmovable bags under my eyes: that's what you get from sharing your flat with a newborn baby for the week!

Primark A/W shoe and boot lust!

Hi guys,
Yesterday, for the first time in months, I popped down to Primark. They have some amazing things instore: all of their Christmas dresses, presents, and even decorations...Somehow I managed to spend £70 without even thinking about it! I picked up a gorgeous gold party dress (post to follow), 2 blouses, 3 necklaces, a cushion for my living room, and an oversized travel bag for my trip to Berlin next month.

But as always, the thing that left me most besotted were the shoes:

I love the tan boots with the reindeer lining: perfect for cozy winter walks. I actually almost got these for Berlin too, but resisted because I've ordered a gorgeous pair of boots from Sarenza instead, and I'm just waiting for them to arrive. For-sensible wear the rainbow coloured brogues were also fabulous: great for livening up the black opaque tights we'll all be wearing from now until next May!

Alot of the party heels were covered in too much cheap glitter for my liking, but I really liked the wall full of rich berry shade seude-like heels in the last picture. Refreshly, they looked comfortable too given their relatively low heels.

Sorry for my long absence last week, but it was for a very good reason: my little sister gave birth to a very handsome little boy (named Bertie Gerard) and as I was her birthing partner, I abandoned the blog to be with her every step of the way. It was worth every minute!

Mango's Style Night!

Hi guys,
I love events where I get to meet new bloggers, and catch up with some of my favourite blogging friends. Last week I went to Mango's style night where I was invited, along with four other bloggers, to style an outfit at the event. We didn't know what we would be styling until the night when, on arrival, we were each presented with an envelope: very exciting!

My style challenge was an outfit for a girls night out. The first thing I spotted that I knew would be perfect for my outfit was a gorgeous gold blazer with a crackled effect. I loved it so much that I styled my whole outfit around it:

Jenny from The Style PA's challenge was the office Christmas party. Our mannequins look ready for a good night out together!

To the gorgeous jacket I added a fitted lace dress with long sleeves, an oversized chain effect necklace and a chunky black and gold bangle. I cinched in the waist of the jacket with a black leather and gold detailing belt. Then to break up the colour a little, because not everyone loves black and gold as much as I do, I added an orange suede bag with a gold Chanel-style chain handle. I'm sure it's not to everyone's taste, but this was my idea of the perfect girl's night out outfit!

Putting the outfit together gave me the chance to check out Mango's new Autumn/Winter collection. There was so much to covet, particularly in the evening wear department. They also had a great selection of oversized gold jewellery that I fell in love with: definitely worth checking out!

Current obsession: Leather sleeved coats

Hi guys,
I always start the winter months by saying "I have enough coats, I really don't need to buy another" only to go out and buy another about 6 weeks in to the cold spell. Well this year I'm not going to say that: This winter I do need a new coat!

I had a massive wardrobe clear out, and ending up taking an embarrassingly large amount of clothes to a car boot sale, leaving me with just 5 coats in my wardrobe, and not a simple black one in sight! However I was left with enough money in my pocket (the bootsale profits) to buy myself a new coat without any guilt at all. And what I have my eyes on is something simple, slightly retro, but with leather sleeves.

In fact, what I have my eyes on is this coat, which I saw at the Oasis event last week:

I love it's sixties style swing shape, and massive pockets. However I worry that its double breasted nature emphasises my bust slightly. And the old lady in me has to admit that it's not the warmest coat in the world. Nonetheless, more than a week after I tried it on, I can't stop thinking about it.

Topshop Outlet bargain of the week: £5 shoes!

Hi guys,
...Well technically, they're actually £2.50 shoes, as they were £5, buy one get one free. So as well as the shoes, I also picked up an embroidered T shirt for a fiver. Then for £7 I got two simple silk shell tops: one in vibrant red and one in teal blue. Perfect for smartening up jeans and knitwear. But it was the shoes that were the biggest bargain, especially as they're leather, and bang on trend:

I really love this: they're a slightly more feminine take on the classic brogue, but the lack of laces means they look less chunky and more stremlined, making for slender calves (unlike the bulky leg look I often get with traditional brogues). The colour is a lovely milk chocolate brown, and they were just made to be teamed with tea dresses and tights (which is actually how I'm wearing them today!) I still can't believe how cheap they were!

This week in the Topshop outlet (I went in on Saturday) there were lots of shoes and trousers, but not a massive supply of dresses. The jewellery stand had been newly refreshed though (all the jewellery is £1.50 bogof) The girl behind the checkout told me that they are expecting alot of new stock in over the next fortnight though, as they will be getting everything that is in the current Topshop sale (exciting!)

If you'd like to check out the Topshop outlet for yourself, it is in The Broadwalk Centre in Edgware. Be warned though: it is a very small shop, and there often isn't a great deal of stock, so it probably isn't worth travelling too far to visit (I live just a 10 minute drive away, and it is next door to my local Sainsburys, hence my constant visits!)

Fabfrocks loves: Levis Made and Crafted

Hi guys,
Earlier this week I went to check out the new offering from Levis: Levis Made and Crafted. Well I say from Levis, but actually that would be wrong: Made and Crafted is developed by Levi’s XX,an independent, creative division of Levi Strauss & Co. that develops and manages the exclusive Levi's Vintage Clothing and Made and Crafted brands. So that clears that up!

The collection is the perfect mix of modern and heritage, and is positioned as much more premium than the usual Levis line. My favourite piece? The Military green parka from the mens range! However unlike the standard Levis range, this one is definitely tailored to women. Think fitted jackets, loose shirting and shirt dresses, and such a big range of premium denim that there's bound to be a pair to suit everyone. The whole collection was made to be mixed and matched then teamed with cute ankle boots for the perfect effortless weekend wardrobe:

I loved the distressed detailing on this jeans, which I have tried and tested, and can assure you they make the thighs look much slimmer!

Also part of what I went to see was the new high rise family (which lands in Harvey Nicks early next month): a collection of three high waisted jeans. They come in skinny fit, boot cut or flared shapes. I'm not normally a fan of high waisted jeans, as they aren't the most flattering cut. But actually these sit on just the right part of the waist meaning they're beautifully flattering, not too high, but high enough to have a lovely modern 70s feel. The skinny pair are by far my favourite, but made to be teamed with chiffon blouses and oversized knitwear.

The price points are higher than I would normally pay for denim (£130 + per pair) mostly because it's something I rarely wear. But the quality speaks for itself, and really does justify the higher price. I've only worn my Made and Crafted jeans once, but I'm already a convert, and compared to my usual Topshop pair, you really can tell the difference in the quality: outfit post to follow.....

Fabfrocks reviews: Nails that cut the mustard

Hi guys,
For the past 4 weeks I have been hunting for the perfect mustard nail varnish. I love the warmth and vintage feel of the colour mustard and have been wearing it for years but it's current fashion popularity means it's so much easier to find now, so as well as buying a couple of new mustard dresses, I resolved to get myself some mustard fingers!

I don't normally spend alot of money on nail varnish, so first I tried Barry M. The nearest they had to mustard was an egg yolk yellow, and it was very very runny. Even after two coats it looked thin and streaky: often a problem with light coloured varnishes. I wiped it off and started again.

Then on Monday whilst in Topshop to check out their sale, I found this:

I've never tried Topshop make up before, and was dubious: I always am when fashion brands branch out and try other things. The colour is called 'cut the mustard' and as it was only £5 I decided to give it a go. The colour is really rich and although I did need the second coat to get a flawless finish, with two coats it has given a thick and glossy finish. I think it looks fantastic!

I've now had it on for two days and haven't suffered a single chip (admittedly I am wearing a base coat and top coat, which is probably helping). But for £5, I'm really impressed! Having been unsure about Topshop make up, on the nail varnish front at least, I'm a new convert.

Daily wear: Slouchy, comfy, stripey...

Hi guys,
This week my posts might seem pretty daily wear intensive, but that's only because I'm so excited to be able to wear some of the wintery things that have been sitting in my wardrobe for a while!

Lately I feel like something of a knitwear addict: I've gone from owning 2 cardigans and not a single jumper to being the proud owner of 6 chunky knit cardigans and 3 jumpers!

This is definitely my favourite time of year to dress for: it's not so cold that everything needs to be covered up with a big bulky coat, but I get to play with layers, and I finally get to wear my new Friis & Co boots from Sarenza, which I ordered 2 months ago, and have just been waiting to break out properly!

The rest of the outfit consists of my new-favourite leather panelled leggings from Topshop, a TK Maxx dress with a stripey Clothing at Tesco jumper thrown over the top (It's first outing), my Friis & Co satchel, See by Chloe bangles, and vintage brooch (a birthday present from Mike last year).

Today has been a good day. I've lusted at the Lulu Guinness press day, explored (and fallen in love with) Levis new Made and Crafted collection, brought 5 boxes of chocolates for just £20 from Thorntons (perfect for Christmas prezzies, and a complete mega-bargain) and now Mike is making homemade meatballs for dinner. Frankly, what more does anyone need?!

Daily Wear: Lady Madonna

Hi guys,
I can't believe the weekend is almost over! Just a quick post to share my Madonna costume, which I wore to a friend's 80s-themed 30th birthday last night. When I think of 80s icons, Madonna immediately comes to mind, so I knew straight away that was a costume I was going to put together. And luckily, everything I needed I already had in my wardrobe: not sure what that says about my wardrobe!

Mike went as Suggs although as he isn't wearing his sunglasses or his hat you can't really tell!

And my outfit? Well, The pleather jacket is from Primark (I lopped the sleeves off last year for a Lady Gaga costume) the one shoulder dress is from Topshop, as are the flat ankle boots. The long lace gloves are from Accessorize, the hair bow is from Miss Selfridge, and the clutch bag is from Peacocks. A high street costume without spending a penny! I might actually reuse this for Halloween...I'm on something of an economy drive.....

Daily Wear: Beating the pre-winter chills

Hi guys,

The beginning of winter is officially here, and I am busying myself by organising my wardrobe and working out which gaps I need to fill (on a very tight budget, as always). I also want to get a new winter coat: not so much a need, but a part of my winter routine that I've had since childhood, and I just can't imagine a winter without a lovely new coat. So far I'm fixated on this one from Topshop, but I just can't justify the expense.

In the meantime, I've been wearing one of my favourite casual Autumnal outfits. As you know, I'm addicted to car boot sales and antique markets: well this is the kind of outfit I wear when I'm trawling the stalls! Smart (as always) but still super comfortable.

The Ugg-looking boots are actually by BearPaw from The Nature Shop: super comfortable for slouchy weekend wear, but without looking too scruffy. They have a sheepskin lining with a cow suede outer and my feet have never felt so toasty. I'm trying not to let myself wear them too often, or my feet will never let me put them into proper shoes again!

The Nature Shop is a shop that sells "nature products" that are kind to the environment: I'm a big fan of sustainable fashion (I've written about it before) but only if it's something you'd wear anyway (I would never wear something unattractive just because it's sustainable; I'm far too vain!) The store also has a 10 % profit pledge of making charitable donations to the World Wildlife Fund, donations to kids charities (Heart Children and Canteen) and carbon credits purchased to achieve their carboNZero certification.

I've teamed my car boot boots with my torn light jeans from Topshop, my Vince short sleeved cardigan (which I got from the Selfridges sale last year) and my chiffon blouse from Debenhams. The bag is my favourite Friis & Co satchel, and the skinny bangle is from my See by Chloe set.

Sadly I have no car boot sale bargains to show from this week, but that's the nature of the beast: some weeks I come home with a pirates bounty and other weeks (like this one) I come home empty handed!

Fabfrocks at Home: The perfect home fragrance

Hi guys,
My favourite smell is the smell of fresh sheets. I look forward to the days when I change my bed and get to crawl into clean and crisp smelling bedding. So you can imagine how delighted I was when Yankee Candle sent me some of their candles, and they included my favourite scents in the world: Two of the candles I was sent were Clean Cotton and Fluffy Towels, and I am now completely addicted to them.

They arrived yesterday, and I immediately lit the fluffy towels one (whilst sniffing clean cotton). Our whole living room was filled with a clean, lightly perfumed scent: like fabric softener but without any chemically tinge. It smelt like the inside of a warm airing cupboard, and it had this lovely comforting smell that reminded me of my mum's house on laundry day. I loved it!

The other candles I was sent were Garden Sweet Pea and Lilac Blossoms. These had a really authentic but gentle floral fragrance that was lovely, but just couldn't compare to the fresh linen scents of the other two, which were my favourites, and now have a permanent home on my side table where I can always smell them.

I think all homes should smell of fresh bedding and towels when you walk in: it's my idea of the perfect home fragrance!

I know Yankee Candles are more expensive than some you can find on the high street, but I think it's worth it for the natural scent, which doesn't have any of the chemical or synthetic fragrances you get with the slightly cheaper candles. I hadn't been in the habit of lighting candles when I get in from work, but I think it's a habit I'm about to start: I'm newly addicted!

PS - I have included the wide shot in the pictures as I wanted to show off my mosaic egg lamp. We got it on our honeymoon in Eygpt and it gives the whole room a lovely warm glow when it's lit. In conjunction with my new candles, my living room has never felt so homely!

The Bank press day and an age crisis!

Hi guys,
Have you ever walked into a shop and thought "I'm just too old to shop here"? Well that's how I felt at the bank press day yesterday. A mix of cool urban tops and tees designed to be teamed with jeans (and combat pants) hung alongside tiny dresses with sequins and cut out detailing: perfect for hitting your favourite club!

This isn't a critisism of the collections, by the way: 5 years ago I was hitting the clubs wearing tiny dresses and killer heels myself. But now I can't remember the last time I went clubbing: a couple of cocktails then running for the last tube is my idea of a fun Saturday night out!

The one dress I did really love is the gold sequinned ones shown below. It has a really great shape, and the low V and structured shoulders would give a really great shape. Here it is, as well as some of the other things I liked:

The shoes, I loved. You're never too old for cool shoes, thank God! There was a pair of ankle boots I had my eye on, and obviously I definitely couldn't resist the (admittedly slightly tacky but) very cool leopard print and red sandals with the bow detail.

Are there any shops you feel too old to shop in? Or to young for, for that matter?

M&S Lingerie: To keep you warm on long winter nights?

Hi guys,
Last week I was invited to breakfast at the Goring Hotel (where a certain Miss Middleton stayed the night before her wedding, if you care about these things!) to check out the Autumn/Winter collection from M&S lingerie: I'm having quite the love affair with M&S of late, aren't I?!

The collections were stunning: although lingerie often is when it's worn by beautiful models! It was mix of fun and colourful, with a nordic twist, and very vintage inspired:

I loved the very simple teal satin set, which is shown in the standard range style, but also comes in the M&S DD+ range. And the gown it was teamed with is gorgeous. I love the bold floral pattern and the rich aubergine colour. The DD+ range at M&S goes up to a G cup: not as large as the range at Debenhams or Bravissimo, but definitely big enough to fit the vast majority.

Cozy boots with lingerie isn't the sexiest look (and I can't see many people going for it!) but I love these cozy bootie slippers! They'd make great Christmas stocking fillers, and would be perfect teamed with snuggly loungewear for lazy weekends at home (or maybe it'd just me that doesn't like to get dressed on Sundays!)

I couldn't believe that the layered leopard print and pink tops were thermals! I am often spotted wearing plain black or white thermal tops under frocks in the winter, but would love to experiment with vibrant pattterned ones, so I'll definitely be picking this leopard print one up!

And can you believe the underwear in the final picture is shapewear? As a shapewear devotee, I can promise you I have nothing as pretty as that in my collection! The sheer panels make it look really surprisingly sexy and the super high waistline means you can be sure everything is held in place. Definitely one for the Christmas parties!

My new favourite shoes: Jeffrey Campbell wedges

Hi guys,
I have fallen in love. Not with a man, but more predictably, with a pair of shoes. As soon as I saw these Jeffrey Campbell wedges on the Sarenza website I knew that I would have to make them mine!

Sure, they're slightly ridiculous. And I think they repell men: the husband observed them with bewilderment and a bemused smile, whilst insisting i'd never wear them. Yes, they are very high. But they're just so pretty, and fashion-forward, and statement making that I'm prepared to take a little bit of mild shoe pain to wear them!

Behold! And note that even the box (in the top picture) is pretty:

Sarenza were showing off the brown and black zebra print version at their A/W event last week, but I much prefer the pattern and colour of these. The dalmation print is slightly more subtle, and they would look great teamed with jeans and a blouse for a night of cocktails with the girls. Because they're monochrome, you could literally wear them with anything!

So will I be wearing these shoes? Well I won't be wearing them for a hard days shopping or dancing all night: I don't think my feet could take it! But for dinner or drinks I will definitely be reaching for these to give my little black dress some impact. I already can't wait for our work Christmas party, where I will be showing them off all night! And in the meantime? I'm going to display them on top of the dresser in my bedroom, because they're just too beautiful not to see everyday!

Daily wear: Summer stripes

Hi guys,
I'm making the most of what the forecasters are calling the last day of our Indian Summer by wearing a light and airy summer dress. Although it's made of cotton, the button-up top part of the dress (It looks like separates but it isn't!) means that it's great for office-wear too. Obviously i've accessorised with black: when do I ever wear an outfit that doesn't have black in it?!

My chief photographer (aka Mike) wasn't working at his highest standard this morning, so the dress picture isn't the finest! I still hope you can see how vibrant the red is though.

The dress is from the Topshop outlet (a bargain £7), the belt is from Primark, the shoes are ASOS, my Friis & Co satchel is from Sarenza and I had the bracelet made when I was living in Beijing: I wanted one that sat much higher up my lower arm so that I could still type whilst wearing it!

I'd already packed all of my summer clothes and shoes away, so tearing up my wardrobe for something to wear lead me to these shoes which I got last summer, and haven't worn once this summer so far! I definitely need to have proper wardrobe clear out and shop what I already own: I'm forever finding things I love that I'd forgotten all about!

Mini post: These are not October feet!

Hi guys,

Today Mike and I went to the zoo. It was so hot that our ice creams melted before we'd eaten them, and we both have brown noses, despite wearing sun tan lotion. After nearly a month in my boots, I can wriggle my toes in sandals again.Our summer clothes, which I had packed and stored under the bed, have been taken out again and all my lovely Autumn/Winter clothes are hanging untouched. Most still have the labels on.

Tomorrow we're taking advantage of the weather (again) and washing the car. So you can imagine how bizarre it felt, when popping into Morrisons on the way home to pick up ice, to wander down the Christmas aisle and talk about the presents we would have to buy, and what food we needed.

If you too, like to save a little money on Christmas by planning things early, then Morrison's have their £10 tins of Quality Street, Roses, Heroes and Celebrations for the better-than-half-price price of £4.49. We picked up two tins, and I have stashed them away in our Christmas supply cupboard. The offer ends tomorrow though, so if you want to get involved get in quick! The offer is limited to 6 tins per customer, but frankly, who could eat that much chocolate?

There are only two paydays left until Christmas. I'm talking about where to buy my very first turkey from on the same day as eating zoo-cooked BBQ. Has the world gone mad?!

Shoe Lust: Sarenza's A/W Collection Preview

Hi guys,
It seems like I'm destined to spend my days in accessories heaven: and who am I to complain?! First I lusted over the M&S accessories range, and now I've had the chance to view some of the newest arrivals in Sarenza's A/W collection, and I'm already mentally preparing a whole new wardrobe based on them!

In the months I have been a Sarenza brand ambassador, I have genuinely fallen in love with the website, and the massive variety of brands they represent. And I think my obsession is only going to increase, if this new collection is anything to go on:

These leopard print and red patent leather shoes from Georgia Rose (£157) look, if possible, even better in the flesh than they do in this photograph. The leather of the leopard print panels was so soft, and these would be perfect teamed with cigarette trousers for a quirky take on this season's androgynous trend.

Sparkle is my newest obsession, and I know I won't get anywhere near the holiday season without investing in some! My favourites are the front pair with the patent toe, also from Georgia Rose (£127), but I also have a slight obsession with the Jeffrey Campbell Lita boots.

Speaking of Jeffrey Campbell, both of these shoes are from the brand, although the leopard print ones don't land on the site for another couple of months. I actually just ordered the wedges (they should arrive tomorrow!) but in the dalmatian print with the black heel. They look gorgeous, and I can't wait to team them with leggings and flippy little frocks.

Finally, not many people know that as well as selling shoes, Sarenza also has a massive collection of handbags. I love my Friis & Co satchel from the site, which I have been using exclusively since it arrives. But I could be tempted to upgrade it for this patent Lollipops version: the colours are lovely!

I think my bank balance could be in jeopardy this month! There are so many shoes and boots that I want, that it's going to take serious willpower to resist buying them all!

Trend spotting at Westfield London's Car bootique

Hi guys,
My love of all things car boot sale related is a well-documented fact. So how could I resist popping down to Westfield London to check out their car bootique sale, which is taking place in the atrium from today until Sunday 2nd October.

It's a great event! As well as the car bootique sale, there are also catwalk shows on Saturday and Sunday, and blogger tutorials by blogging superstars The Style PA, Disney Roller Girl, and Fashion Foie Gras. Definitely worth checking out!

The car bootique sale features cars from French Connection, Coach, House of Fraser, River Island and many more.

So what trends did I notice from all of those top stores? Well Heritage is still very hot. The Ted Baker car looked like a walk through a huge English country garden (complete with coat wearing dog) and padded jackets in the barbour style were the order of the day. At the River Island car the heritage trend took a more elderly eccentric turn (my favourite kind) with a mishmash of pussy bow blouse, tweed jackets, and fitted skirts in a variety of clashing patterns and a riot of autumnal colours.

Animal Print is massively popular, and although leopard continued to dominate at House of Fraser and Twenty8Twelve, I think the more luxe and subtle snake print seen on the very understated French Connection car will prove more popular. I adored the biba at House of Frazer collection that was showcased, and just wanted to swath myself in their gorgeous selection of faux furs.

Finally, and my favourite trend of all, is the Modish Sixties trend. Again, I saw this on the River Island car: lots of monochrome and simple clean lines. I also loved the Aline mini dress in mustard, which is just ripe for teaming with black tights and patent black accessories.

Another part of the Car Bootique event is that the team of Westfield are looking for three bloggers to help write their Stylenotes blog. In order to win the chance to write for their blog, you have to show off your unique blogging superskill. (The suggestions were mega videos and hand written poetry). The problem is, I think my blogging skill, or maybe un-skill, is that I'm completely normal: I'm just like everyone else. I'm the same as the girls reading this blog (that's you!) and the girls I saw shopping at Westfield London today.

Admittedly sometimes I get to meet and interview celebs (but I always get star struck!) And I pinch myself at every London Fashion Week show I attend, because I can't believe they let me in! The important thing is though, I never take for granted any of the amazing experiences I get because I write this blog.

But I do love fashion and I want to look good. I want to make the trends work for my body shape and fit in with my lifestyle, just like every other girl you see in Topshop on a Saturday afternoon. And isn't that what a trip to a shopping centre is all about? About normal people finding something they fall in love with (then in my case justifying the expense of buying it for themselves!) and that little bit of fashion magic making them leave the shop feeling really special? That's what I love about fashion and that's the skill I'm showcasing, not clever odes to hemlines , because that's what keeps me writing this blog everyday!

Daily Wear: Fabfrocks in jeans!

Hi guys,

Today I did something I very rarely do, particularly on weekdays. Today I left the dresses hanging in my wardrobe and headed for a day at work wearing jeans. I don't really like the shapes of my legs, especially my thighs, so I don't often wear jeans at all. But then, whilst have a deep clean of my wardrobe, I found these Topshop jeans that I haven't worn since university. They fit like a dream and it's been a revelation: I can't stop wearing them!

I teamed my lovely jeans with an Urban Outfitters blouse, See by Chloe bracelet, Primark owl necklace, Topshop outlet boots, and satchel c/o Sarenza.

I appreciate that this isn't a high-fashion outfit, but it feels perfectly comfy and perfect for autumn. I also thought I should share the pictures of me in jeans, because they don't get taken very often!

I'm glad I didn't dress for the heatwave the weather forecasters said was coming: I saw so many women struggling through the rain torrent in sandals tonight. Instead I packed my bag sensibly with my River Island snake skin blazer and my beloved Vivienne Westwood scarf:

I hope you don't get bored of seeing this scarf by the end of the winter! I just can't get enough of it: it turns even the most boring of outfits into a style statement, and I'm completely in love with it. It matches all of my winter coats too, so I can see myself wearing this until the fabric wears thin!

Fabfrocks at Home: I heart Hornsea

Hi guys,

I wrote a couple of weeks ago about my acquisition of a gorgeous Hornsea terrine and coffee jar for the bargain price of £2.50 for both pieces. But I definitely excelled that bargain on the Dagger Road carboot sale in Edgware this morning (If you live in the area, this car boot still has plenty of stalls, despite the fact that the summer season is over; it stays open until the end of October!)

I picked up a 40 piece 1974 Hornsea dinner service in the daisy pattern and the mustard/orange colourway for just £20. That works out at just 50p a piece!

The set included the sugar, tea and coffee jars, three large terrines, the coffee and tea pot with the sugar bowl and milk jug. There is also the gravy boat, three serving platters, six teacups and saucers, six plates, six bowls, and vinegar and oil jars. The only set that wasn't complete was the dinner plates: sourcing them will become my next mission!

I love Hornsea table wear. For me, it's one of the iconic prints of the seventies. I love all of their designs, but I am especially a fan of the heirloom range, which is the pattern of the pieces I got on my last trip. This particular collection is called Saffron and it was produced from 1972-1990 (as I said, this is the '74 version). It's amazing what google can tell you about your carboot purchases!

I've never been a big fan of matching, so I will be filling in the gaps in my collection with pieces from another of the patterns and colour ways.

I am a massive advocate for shopping on car boot sales, especially if you like vintage pieces. This same set would have cost ten times as much if i'd been shopping in an antique shop, and apart from that, once you start car booting, the thrill of finding something special becomes almost addictive. It's also environmentally friendly (why buy something that has to be produced new, when something you might fall in love with already exists) and it's a whole lot of fun!And it's not just good for homewares: I also often get great bargains on boots and clothes too! Four of the best: Dresses from the Topshop Outlet this week

Hi guys,

As I try to do at least once a month, this morning I popped down to the Topshop outlet. I didn't buy anything except jewellery, but if i'd have been in the market for a party dress, I would've been in luck! There was a great selection of partywear in store today, and in a great range of sizes too. Here are four of the best dresses they had instore today:

The strapless polka dot dress (my favourite of the four!) is £25. The sequinned dress, which is from the dress up! range, and the crochet purple dress were both £30 each. And the patterned dress, which would look great for the office with tights and a blazer, was just £15. And don't forget that everything in the store is buy one get one free, compounding the bargains even further!

Other notes from the Topshop outlet: If you're looking for winter coats or knitwear then you're out of luck. There was absolutely none in store today. On a brighter note though, there is an offer on right now where all the Freedom jewellery instore is £1.50 per piece, buy one get one free. I picked up a couple of gorgeous brooches! There is also an enormous selection of skirts, so if you love wearing separates, this is the week to pop down!

PS - The Topshop outlet is in the Broadwalk Centre, Edgware. It is on the Northern line, and in zone 5. It's only a very small store, and although there are often bargains to be had, I have hundreds of trips in where the stock isn't that great. So it's worth popping into if you're in the area, but I really wouldn't travel a long distance to visit it.

Marks and Spencer Accessories: Not what you'd expect!

Hi guys,

This evening I was invited to a Mad Hatters Tea Party to check out the new ranges of accessories from Marks and Spencer. And I have to say I completely fell in love: it wasn't what I was expecting at all. But in a good way! I think I have a slight prejudice against Marks and Spencer because it was one of only 5 clothing stores on our high street growing up, and was the place my Nan got her nighties, and my mum got my sensible school knickers.

But I take it back! I withdraw my old-fashioned prejudice: because judging by these accessories, M&S is a cool place to shop! The collections were divided into four distinct trend zones: Nordic Narnia, Wilderness, Global Traveller, and Boy Meets Girl:

The pieces in the Boy Meets Girl zone were my favourites: I especially loved the oversized black leather handbags (which felt as soft as butter) and the chunky black watch in the picture above.

I also loved all the glitter and sequins in the global traveler zone: can you believe the black and taupe sequinned and heeled Mary Janes were only £30? That's considerably cheaper than some of the more popular high street stores, and I completely loved them. They'd be perfect for Christmas parties, and I would team them with leggings for girls nights out.

I was also surprised at how many of the pretty shoes came in with built in insolia technology: I only have one pair of insolia shoes, but I swear by it! They're the only heels I can dance in all night long and not go home with my feet in shreds. Shoes that feel comfy but look all fashion: how can you lose!?

The overall verdict? For quality and affordable pieces that are fashion-forward, and are built to last, head to Marks and Spencer. I definitely will be!

The Show: Redefinition

Hi guys,
If I ever won a substantial amount of money then one of the things I would do would be to take a tour of the shopping centres of the UK. I get so jealous when I hear people talking about their local shopping areas on twitter: each one seems different and with its own idiosyncrasies. I think it comes from growing up in a town with 5 shops: shopping centres seem exotic! I already love the Arndale Centre in Manchester, and am a regular visitor to Westfield London. I'd like to visit York, Leeds, and of course, the Bullring in Birmingham.

As well as the shopping (of course!) my favourite things about shopping centres are the unique events each centre hosts. And this weekend, The Bullring are hosting a cracker! The Show: Redefinition is a show that mixes technology and fashion. Real-life and holographic models will blur the lines between reality and illusion in a unique show that will show off loads of A/W trends from stores like Reiss, French Connection, and Forever 21.

Frankly, it sounds amazing! Britain's Next Top Model winner Tiffany Pisani will be taking to the catwalk, and although I don't know who it is, there's going to be a celebrity guest appearance too!

LFW SS12: Fearne Cotton for very.co.uk

Hi guys,
Last night saw the unveiling of Fearne Cotton's SS collection for very.co.uk, and I toddled along to check it out, along with lots of other lovely bloggers.

There were also plenty of celebrity guests in attendance, including Holly Wiiloughby, Whitney Port (adding fuel to the rumours that she'll be doing her own collection with Very next year) Myleene Klass, and the boys from McFly; including my mega girlhood crush, Dougie!

After a couple of cocktails we found out seats and the show began:

Am I the only one slightly creeped out by how all the models look slightly like Fearne?! Anyway, I digress! The collection was heavily seventies-inspired with pussy bow blouses and spray-on denim (both jeans and shorts). Feminine, but still with the tough, rock chick edge you'd expect from a Fearne collection. Key pieces were kept deliberately minimal: soft jersey cotton dresses and tops in simple block colours, often layered with chiffon panels. Great for layering, but a little too flimsy for wearing alone? The one piece I really liked was the mustard covered mini dress with the slightly bell-shaped skirt.

The black maxi skirt and slouchy trousers were equally covetable, and would be great for teaming with almost anything: wardrobe staples you could wear over and over!

Whilst not always to my taste, I can see this being a big seller for Fearne and Very next summer. What do you think of the new collection?

Harrods Christmas World is open...and looking fantastic!

Hi guys,
Yesterday after my last LFW show of the season, I met Mike from his office, and he took me to Harrods. We had ice cream in the Harrods Ice cream parlour (best sundae I have ever eaten!) and then went for a walk around their Christmas World which, bizarrely, opened about a month ago.

I unashamedly love Christmas! I have loved it my whole life and I always get excited about it far too early: not normally this early, but I've just finished putting together the Christmas gift guide for work, which got me in the festive spirit. Plus, Christmas World is a tourist haven, and if you try to visit closer to Christmas it's like a very sparkly hell!

I am very lucky that Mike humoured me whilst I checked out every single bauble and tried to find the most expensive crackers (my best was £599 for a box of six) the took some photos:

The world is slightly smaller this year than last, and has been moved from its usual spot on the fourth floor to the second. It's been divided into three distinct zones and themes.

My favourite was the gingerbread Christmas, full of fifties-style pastel colours and decorations shaped like ice cream cones, candy canes, and gingerbread men of course! The other two zones were Winter Wonderland (lots of white and glitter) and Traditional Christmas (Victoriana in red, gold, and green). It's definitely worth a visit if you're in town and looking to get festive! The baubles start in price from about £4 each, which isn't cheap, but they make a lovely special memory or souvenier.

It's a bit too soon to be talking about Christmas proper, but if Harrods is a bit too rich for your purse then nearer the time I will be doing lots of Fabfrocks at Home features about Christmas on a budget: including how to make your own decorations!

Sarenza A/W Collection Review: Pure British Style

Hi guys,

Sarenza have just launched their brand new A/W collection on site. To celebrate that, they are launching a review contest to pick the Best of British style from their new ranges, and they asked me to take part. As a Sarenza brand ambassador (and dedicated fan of the brand) how could I say no?!

I have an imaginary £800 to spend on the new season shoes of my dreams. Can you imagine how exciting that would be?! But instead of just showing you shoes, I thought I would show you how to turn incredible statement shoes into outfits:

First up are these House of Harlow ankle boots (£240). How gorgeous are these?! They're 100% leather, and I love the slightly bondage-style overlays. I would team these with my leather jacket, skinny black jeans, a cute satchel (I have the Friis & Co one from Sarenza, and it's fab!) and a vibrant,oversized chunky knit scarf.

Next up are these Mellow Yellow ankle boots (£160). I love these boots: they're simple and delicate, but they'd go with anything. These would be perfect for teaming with a dress and a fitted fur coat for a work to evening occasion.

Then I would indulge with these crazy Jeffrey Campbell Lita heels (£103.32) These shoes deserve to be taken to a party, so I would wear it with a sequinned dress and tan vintage-style accessories.

Finally, I would put on my sensible hat and get these Jonak moccasin boots (£63.75) They look so comfortable, and would be great for long Autumnal walks. Team with jeans and knits for a cozy take on the heritage trend.

Total fictional spend: £567.07. Which leaves me plenty of money to buy comfy pumps in every colour: perfect for when all those beautiful heels leave my feet aching!

I love being British: I think we Brits have a very distinct sense of style, both with our shoes and our dress. I just can't imagine a French woman hitting her local disco in those glittery Jeffery Campbell boots with quite the same gusto I would! I know i'm generalising, but I think we just throw things together and experiment a little bit more.

LFW SS12: Ada Zanditon

Hi guys,

As part of LFW's digital schedule, Ada Zanditon didn't give a presentation, but instead showcased the collection with the screening of a film inspired by it.

The collection was entitled Poseisus and the designs featured all of the designers trademarks: geometrical sculpturing, eye-catching prints, and innovative designs. The film took us on the journey of a greek goddess seahorse who travels the world, flowing in the current. There was clear inspiration from sea horses, and greek goddesses incorporated into the show.

After the screening two models wearing the key dresses from the collection circulated amongst the crowds. The cobweb/seahorse inspired dress looked phenomenal, but almost more impressive was the eery eye make up: the whole look left me transfixed.

One of the things I most admire about Ada Zanditon's work is her commitment to ethical and sustainable manufacturing. Ada has been dubbed the greenest rising star of London Fashion Week: but you really can't tell when looking at the quality and innovation of her designs. Leave all your preconceptions about hippie, scratchy ethical fashion at the door: this is high fashion at its best!

LFW SS12: Bernard Chandran

Hi guys,

I always enjoy the Bernard Chandran show at London Fashion Week, and I thought this year was better than ever.

The inspiration of the show was the 1950s glamour that once inspired the designers mother. But there were no twee full skirts here, and above all the collection felt thoroughly new and modern. The cuts were clean and simple: pencil shapes and straight lines topped with white cotton gloves. But with curved sculptural detailing that I completely adored! The outfits towards the end of the show that featured the white cut-out embroidery were by far my favourites:

The colour palette was at its best when it was muted, but the collection also featured greens and turquoise blues.

Of the collection, Chandran said: "This season I pay tribute to my mother. I discovered myself through her. I am truly inspired by her younger days of the fifties, where they actually took the effort to be fashionable. Given the limited resources at that time, she would take the pain to create and sew her own clothes, and put them together to look stylish. I truly admire her creativity, the passion to create and the effort to look good." Aww, I have such a soft spot for people that love their mums!

LFW SS12: Paul Costelloe

Hi guys,

As always, London Fashion Week was opened by the very early start of the Paul Costelloe show.

Sadly, I had the worst seats ever (Fashion week tip: If you want to take photos and you aren't on row 1 or 2 just stand at the back! When you sitting on row 4/5 your photos will mostly feature the backs of people's heads, the the person sat behind you will go crazy if you stand up to take a shot or two)

That means that this will be wordy review, not a photo lead one: sorry!! The overarching theme of the Paul Costelloe show was a sixties one and the designers inspiration was the 1962 Hollywood classic What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? But it was a game of two halves. The opening dresses we minimalist, in shades of white, nudes and neutrals. Think swing jackets, micro mini dresses and oversized buttons as detailing.

In the second half of the show though, things became much more feminine. Babydoll dresses with thigh skimming skirts came in macaroon shades of pale pink and pistachio green. Empire lines were big news (bad news for busty girls like me) and the hair was piled high on top of the head in several different and unusual bun shapes: I loved it.

LFW SS12 Day One: Daily Wear

Hi guys,

Well after weeks of endless chatter and hype, London Fashion Week has finally arrived. I always love fashion week: as well as the fantastic shows, I love to people watch and see an amazing array of outfits. I also love having the chance to meet some of my favourite bloggers and brands: it makes a nice change to be surrounded by so many creative people, and fills me with new exciting ideas. Anyway, enough of my fashion week gushing!

Obviously I will be writing up all my favourite first day shows shortly, but first, here's what I wore for day one:

Yes I was brave, and gave the Topshop Unique raccoon dress a go for non-holiday wear! I'm wearing it with my waterfall jacket and watch from Clothing at Tesco. The belt is from Dorothy Perkins. The brooch is vintage. The bangles are See by Chloe. The shoes and bag are both c/o Sarenza.

The more observant amongst you will note that my fringe is no longer in my eyes! Yes, I had a lovely wash cut and blow dry this afternoon, courtesy of the Toni and Guy blow dry bar in Somerset House. I had a couple of inches taken off the bottom in an attempt to even up the layers, which I'm growing out. It's looking thicker and better already!

Right now I'm snuggled up on my sofa in my pajamas and with my favourite blanket. The perfect place to be to write up some show reviews: they're coming soon!

What's your clothing confession?

Hi guys,
It's that time of the year again: time to put all of your summer clothes to the back of your wardrobe, pull out your tights and jumpers, and have a complete wardrobe overhaul! Two weekends ago, Mike and I even went to Ikea to buy a new chest of drawers so I could turn my floordrobe into something almost resembling order. Sadly I haven't actually filled it yet!

Ahead of London Fashion Week, and because it's wardrobe clearout time, Weight Watchers are raising money for Tommy’s charity with a ‘Clothing Amnesty Initiative’, whereby supporters can donate unwanted clothes via the clothesforcash scheme – and raise £10 per bag!

They're also asking the public to get behind the amnesty by telling them their Clothes Confession - that item that you’ve bought but have only worn once - via their new Facebook app. And in return for this Clothes Confession, Weight Watchers will donate 10p directly to the charity.

And because I can't ask you to do something I wouldn't do myself, here's mine:

Shoes are my weakness: especially shoes with high heels! However sadly, I also have really sensitive feet. Which means I am the proud owner of an army of shoes I love to look at, but can never wear (unless I'm prepared to suffer blisters and bleeding which, let's face it, just isn't sexy!)

I'll never throw them away (they're just too pretty!) but my clothing confession is that all three of these pairs of shoes still have the labels on, because I've never actually worn them and got out of my front door! Am I a tad ashamed? Yes! Does this mean I'll stop buying my beloved heels? Definitely not!

Fabfrocks reviews: Anesis Spa, Clapham Common

Hi guys,
If you're looking for a hand and feet treat, then I would recommend a visit to the Anesis spa.

I popped down last night with Jenny from The Style PA to enjoy a fish pedicure. And unlike my last experience this was relaxing, in a lovely environment, and it actually worked!

There were hundreds of fish in each tank, and they went to town, nibbling at my feet and toes. For those of you that haven't had it done before:A fish pedicure is a pedicure with a difference. You dip your feet into a tank full of garra rufa (or doctor) fish, who suck away all your dead hard skin. For those of you worrying about losing more than you expected (a toe perhaps!) they only consume the affected and dead areas of the skin, leaving the healthy skin to grow.

Because I knew what to expect from my last fishy experience, it actually felt really relaxing: like a tickly massage. The atmosphere in the spa was nice too: chilled out music, mood lighting, and comfy snakeskin seats that you sank into. After 30 minutes of fish nibbling and a glass of champagne, my tootsies were dried, then shaped and polished. I opted for an OPI shade called Russian Navy which looks lovely, and makes a nice change from my usual black!

After we had sat gossiping, letting our toe nails dry, we were asked if we'd like false eyelashes applying too. Obviously we jumped at the chance! We chose dramatic (maybe a little too dramatic with hindsight) sets of strip lashes, but unlike having your striplashes applied at home, these are supposed to last for up to two weeks. I was sceptical, as two weeks seemed like a long time for strip lashed to last. But so far so good: I slept with mine on last night, and they're still in place this morning!

I think Anesis would be a great place to head before a special girly night out. The therapists are warm and friendly. The atmosphere is perfect for pre-night out prep (Think an Ibiza chill out zone). And the fish pedi booths are organised so that you can sit with friends whilst having it done: perfect for girly gossip! The spa also offers individual blink + go lashes, high definition eyebrow shaping (which looks amazing: definitely on my must-try list) and OPI and gel manicures. All you'd need to do is book an afternoon at Anesis, buy a new frock, and you'd be ready for a night on the town!

This has been running all month (trust me to be late to the table!) and will end on 30th September.

The prize is £300 a month to spend on clothes for 12 months: quick maths tells me that that's a £3600 new wardrobe! But don't worry: for the non-bloggers out there, there's also the chance to win a £300 shopping voucher over on their facebook page.

Zalando are a big comparison site (you've probably seen their shoe ad on the TV at the minute!) and they stock thousands of fashion lines from hundreds of different brands. So picking my dream outfit was pretty easy:

All outfits start with a good pair of shoes, so I started with these Jonak brogues. I love the jazz era two-tone brogues (definitely on my must-have list!). To these I added a floral tea dress from Vera Moda and a chunky yellow cardigan (which looks vintage but isn't - I need this in my wardrobe!)

And because I'm an accessories addict, I just had to add a belt, bag (by Sonia Rykiel and beautiful!), scarf, and yummy bangle! OK, at this point I've spent far too long on the Zalando website, and need to win this competition before I bankrupt myself!

I know this isn't a particularly fashion forward outfit (no new season trends here!) but it's exactly my style: a little bit vintage inspired, focused on a lovely frock and lots of gorgeous statement accessories all piled on top of each other. I'm sure someone did once tell me less is more, but I didn't listen!

London Fashion Week Wardrobe: Sorted!

Hi guys,

As you know, when it comes to my outfits for London Fashion Week I tend to have a 'do it on the day' attitude. I'm always so busy making other preparations that what I actually wear often takes a back seat (after all, noone is there to look at me!)

But not this year! Thanks to Clothing at Tesco (the official sponsor of London Fashion Week) I can organise what I'll be wearing with time to spare! The Tesco team kindly offered to dress me for the week, and I chose a host of amazing pieces: here they are worn all together

Obviously, for fashion week I'll be mixing and matching with other pieces from my wardrobe, but I am completely in love with their A/W range: everything fits beautifully, and I'll be wrapped up with style when the cold weather finally hits:

The first outfit is my favourite one: it makes me think of wrapping up for bonfire night, but in a more vintage heritage way! My favourite piece of them all though is the 1940s style coat. I've worn it undone to show off the dress, but it cinches in at the waist beautifully with a belt, and it fits amazingly and feels beautiful.

Suddenly, I'm looking forward to fashion week even more than ever!!

Daily Wear: A Happy Experiment

Hi guys,

I've now been back from my honeymoon a full six weeks, but only now can I share some of the pictures! When I got back to the UK my trusty camera malfunctioned and I had to have it repaired (losing some of our honeymoon pics in the process). But it's finally up and running again, and I can bore everyone with my pictures yet again!

Finally seeing the pictures reminded me of what a beautiful country Egypt is. I always imagined that the desert would feel arid and dead, but there was actually so much life in it, and as you can see, the views from our hotel were almost painfully beautiful - and to the other side of our room was the sea!

I don't have all of the outfit posts I planned to show you, sadly. BUT on the brightside, I do have the picture of my most experimental outfit of the trip. If you can bear to see summer outfits when the weather is so miserable, that is:

Ouch! Look at that sunburn (and I was religiously wearing factor 50!) It's not the pieces that I put together that I think are experimental, but the dress itself. I got it from Topshop Unique a full twelve months ago, but hadn't ever worn it. It's ridiculously oversized (Mike and I can both wear it together with room!) and features a raccoon dressed as a cowboy and wearing antlers. It's definitely one of the weirder pieces in my wardrobe: but I completely love it!!

I teamed it with my gold diamante sandals from Dune, tooth necklace from Warren James, and an Aztec-inspired hand embellished bag from Accessorize.

Looking at this picture has made me love this dress more than I already did (now that I'm brave enough to wear it!) And I think it will look great for autumn teamed with ankle boots and my cropped leather jacket.

What do you think? I know it's weird: but is it good-weird, or just plain too much?!

London Fashion Week and Food

I love lots of things in this world, but mostly two: fashion and food. However, I always think of the two as mutually exclusive things. When I eat I generally spill something down my top (not good for the fashion) and when I'm trying to wear something lovely I try to think thin (not good for the food).

However, like all good bandwagons, several food-type emporiums (you don't hear that word enough any more!) are promoting London Fashion Week offers.

- FRAE are serving their organic fat-free yoghurt at Somerset House during London Fashion Weekend, in special fashion tubs. What's more, one special fashion lover will receive a year’s supply of its frozen yogurt too. All you have to do is buy your snack and keep your FRAE fashion yogurt tub, sign it with your email address,and return it to either FRAE Notting Hill or FRAE Camden Passage for your chance to win!

-Sketch are collaborating with mywardrobe.com to offer a LFW express lunch. From 16th September - 5th October you pay £60 for a 3 course, Michelin star champagne lunch: it's sounds expensive just for lunch, but at the end of your meal you receive a £50 voucher to spend at mywardrobe.com. Result!!

-Skinny cocktails at the Sanderson hotel (I'm counting these as food because they have fruit in them!) The menu comprises of 6 lightly crafted cocktails - all made of the freshest ingredients to maximise flavour and minimising your waist line. I've never been one to count booze as calories, but guilt-free cocktails can never be a bad thing. I'll be trying these next week, so I'll be sure to report back!

Fabfrocks at Home: Time for tea

Hi guys,
For as long as I can remember my mum has had a Country Roses dinner service. It is a precious thing in the Brierley house to be treated with deference: you know it's a really special occasion when you're allowed to eat your dinner off it, and I always regarded it with awe. Which is why when Mike and I went to do our wedding list I knew I wanted a beautiful fancy tea service of my own: a potential future family heirloom.

I immediately selected this gorgeous Cuckoo afternoon tea set from Wedgwood (We got ours from Debenhams, but you can get it from almost any department store or Wedgwood direct) and I am now the proud owner of a teapot, 4 tea cups and saucers, 4 tea plates, a sandwich tray, a milk jug and sugar bowl, and a cake stand. In total, the whole set cost more than my car. (That probably says more about my old battered car than the cost of modern teasets, but it was still really expensive!) But it's totally worth it. It sits in a cabinet in our living room where I can see it everyday, and every time I walk past it it makes me smile.

I love afternoon tea. I love the ritual of it, the taking time out from your busy life. And frankly, I love the cake! But you don't need an overpriced matching afternoon tea set to get involved: in fact, it's probably cooler if you don't! Shabby chic is all the rage, and mismatched tea sets are everywhere: that's how most London tea rooms will serve you (trust me: afternoon tea is my monthly indulgence!) and it looks great!

Looking for a tea set on a budget? Hit up car boot sales and charity shops! You'll pay more if you're looking for a full matching set (between £10-100 depending on the pattern and brand) but for oddments and one off pieces (to create an eclectic set of your own) expect to pay from 50p per cup and saucer, from £1 per tea plate, and from £2 for a cake stand. Happy bargain hunting!

Charles Worthington's Salon at Home range

Hi guys,

Last night I was invited for a sneak peek at Charles Worthington's Salon at Home range. The range is launching with it's "straight and smooth" product: a hair straightening kit you can use at home!

The product works by resetting the bonds in your hair and effectively reprogramming your hairs 'memory' (I know it sounds far fetched but stay with me!) leaving you hair straight rather than frizzy. We were introduced to one of the 400 consumer testers of the product, and I have to say, her hair looked fabulous!

I can't wait to try this product, and if it works, it could revolutionize my mornings! The products keeps hair straight for up to 40 days, meaning no more early morning hair straightening: I can't wait to give it a try this weekend!

The kit comes with everything you need: including the gloves and even the comb to comb it through your hair! Apparently the smell is pretty awful, but I always think if something smells potent it's a good sign it's going to work!

This is just the first product in the Salon at Home range. Coming soon there are also products to add shine, and strengthen and repair the hair. The products can be used in conjunction with each other, so I intend to straighten, strengthen and shine up my hair, all at the same time!

Westfield Stratford City opens in less than a week!

Hi guys,
In just 6 short days, Westfield Stratford City will be opening its doors to the public. Last week, I was invited for a sneak peek around the new shopping centre: and I was impressed!

The centre is working on an indoors-outdoors concept: the whole place feels so light and airy, and there is even an outdoors shopping street as part of the complex. Unlike Westfield London, there isn't going to be a premium shopping area (which doesn't bother me, as I couldn't afford to shop there anyway) but there is going to be a Primark as well as a market place area for smaller independents: a sign that the target demographic is younger, trendier, and less affluent perhaps?!

It's amazing to think that this will be finished in less than a week: it looked like there was so much work to be done, although there was also more builders than i've ever seen before!

Every article I've read about this new Westfield so far has talked about regeneration. And as amazing as I think it is that this mall is boosting the economy of an area that really needs the support (not to mention creating 1,200 new jobs) I know as well as you do that what really matters when choosing whether to shop somewhere is how good the shops are! So here is a tip-of-the-iceberg list: John Lewis, Primark, Wolford, True Religion, Miss Sixty, Miss Selfridges, Pull and Bear, Uniqlo, and Fashion Rocks.

The centre will also feature 70 resturants (think Jamies Italia, Bumpkin, Wahaca, and many more), two hotels, a huge cinema, an All Star Lanes bowling alley and even a casino.

As a North West London gal, this will never be my local shopping centre (Although if Westfield want to remodel Brent Cross, I'll be very grateful) but I think the lure of my favourite shops, not to mention the whopping 70 restaurants, means I'll be forcing Mike into the back of the car (the centre has 5,000 parking spaces) and having a day out soon!

Vogue's Fashion Night Out: Two days to go!

For the third year in a row,Thursday marks the latest of Vogue Fashion's Night's out. These have been a great success in recent years, and let's face it, if our high streets needed a little helping hand at any time, then it's now. And the evening supports the charity Kids Company, so it's a win-win situation really!

Vogue's Fashion Night out gives shoppers the chance to take part in exclusive events, mingle with celebs and watch great entertainment, and snap up some special designs, made just for the event. The events will be happening in cities around the world, but the focus of the UK's efforts will be in London.

Daily Wear: Making an effort for work!

Hi guys,
Today was an exciting day in my office, as Peter Andre was coming in for a live webchat. Now, I'm not a big Peter Andre fan (though he was a nice man) but because he was bringing in his ITV2 film crew and I was managing the chat, I figured I ought to make an effort: without looking like I made an effort, of course!

All the shots of me showed me stressing out and typing wiht my mouth open, but no matter! Here's what I wore:

My black mini dress is about 6 years old and a wardrobe staple (originally from TKMaxx), with my other wardrobe staple of my Topshop kimono, my Topshop leather panel leggings and blazer, Primark owl necklace, and Friis and Co Satchel from Sarenza. I wore my New Look brogues, and carried my black wedge heels in my handbag (but didn't change into them in the end, because he's not a tall man!)

Overall, it looked like an outfit I would wear to work on any day, but with more attention paid to coordination, and slightly tidier hair!

Primark A/W 11 boots and shoes

Hi guys,
I don't often venture into Primark any more (not because I don't still love Primark, just because i'm trying to do some saving, and have put my shopping addiction on hold.) But this week lil sis and I took a jaunt to the Oxford Circus branch for a sneak peak at their new A/W wares.

I actually came out empty-handed, which is very unlike me when it comes to Primark! However, as usual, I did find myself lingering a little too long over their shoe department:

Shearling was a very popular Primark boot trend (And the first set were only £15, which is amazingly purse friendly, if you're on a budget) but it was the boxy colour popping wedge ankle boots that set my heart racing.

I know they're entirely impractical, but I loved the turquoise ones! I have no idea what i'd wear with them but when did that stop me loving shoes?! The heart wants what it wants. Mine also wants those orange brogues. And I can see heel lovers falling head over heels for the burgandy brogues with the stacked heels. Personally, I prefer my brogues flat, so that I can walk around the shops in them all day!

Have you had any Primark bargains lately? If so, what did you get? I must admit I wasn't very impressed with the Oxford Street store this week. I went in planning to buy myself an Autumn dress or two, and couldn't find anything I liked enough to part with my cash for!

Fabfrocks at Home: The car boot kitchen!

Hi guys,

Well the bank holiday was over days ago (it feels like months), and what a wash out it was: I've never spent a weekend in August feeling so cold! We still managed to make the most of it though. I went home to visit my parents, and we hit some of my favourite car boot sales. I always love the carboot sales in Lincolnshire: there are a lot more of them, and they're a lot cheaper than the sales in London.

This weekend I cleaned up on the homewear front:

I got the Hornsea terrine for £2 and the coffee jar for 50p. That gives me a new mission of finding the tea and sugar jars to match! The MidWinter soup bowls were £2 for the set of 4 and I got the whole trifle set (dish and 6 bowls) for £2 too.

In fact, £2 was my favourite price, as that's how much I paid for the mirror as well: the mirror needs a good clean, but it was such a bargain! I really love the shape of it, which reminds me of an old-fashioned TV when it's turned on it's side.

The Jaegar runway report challenge!

Hi guys,
I'm never one to back away from a challenge, so when John Lewis challenged me to write a report on the Jaeger A/W catwalk collection, I just couldn't say no!

The dresses are always the first thing I look at from any catwalk collection (this blog isn't called fabfrocks for nothing!) and these certainly don't disappoint. I love the mustard coloured dress: and mustard is a colour that was used liberally throughout the collection. The lines are simple and clean: they remind me of simple 60s shifts, but with longer, Seventies-style hemlines.

Jaeger is a heritage brand, so it was no surprise that there was an old English heritage feel to the collection, but with a Seventies twist. From the skirts with their preppy below-the-knee skirts to the silk blouses and even the coats with the shearling collars, there was definitely a Seventies-retro feel to this collection.

The steal-the-show pieces though (for me at least) were the knits. They were chunky, heavy-looking and surprisingly simple: unlike the coats which wanted to take all the attention with their wide lapels, leather and shealing detailing, and unusual proportions. But I just couldn't stop thinking about snuggling up in those jumpers and cardigans, which looked perfectly ladylike, cinched in the middle with belts!

And as for my second-favourite obsession, the handbags? Think classic boxy shapes in shades of tan, black and blue, with vibrant orange detailing.

Sarenza: Friis & Company special!

Hi guys,

One of the things I love best about being a Sarenza brand ambassador is that I get introduced to new European brands (well, new to me!) that i'm now completely in love with, but had never heard of before.

One of these brands is Friis & Company, who I can definitely say are a new favourite. They're a Danish company that was set up just over 10 years ago, and what they can do with leather defies belief: I can't wait to get my hands on some of their heels!

I picked out a gorgeous pair of their black studded leather boots, and a matching black leather satchel. I'm breaking in the boots today, and so far, so very very comfortable:

The boots are £119 and the bag is £145. (Luckily I got in there before the Sarenza sale ended, so I paid a little less!)

One of the things I love about the brand is how lovely the packaging is. The boots came in a very pretty pink and black box, and each boot came in a satin dust bag, which is how the satchel arrived too.

The leather of both pieces is really soft, and the satchel is even more roomy than it looks: today it's holding my filofax, 2 notebooks and my camera with room to spare! And the boots are such a statement piece I don't have to make much effort with what I wear them with: today i've just thrown on my black jeans and a kimono.

Fashion week is just over a fortnight away, and I know these are going to be my go-to pieces when I want to look great and practical at the same time!

Daily wears: Getting the weather all wrong!

Hi guys,
The thing I hate about rain, besides the fact that it ruins my hair and makes it go frizzy, is that it tricks me into thinking it's going to be much colder outside than it actually is, leaving me dressed for winter in the middle of August! And i'm not the only one: everyone's at it!

I actually saw a girl wearing a cropped fur coat on the tube this morning! I've made the mistake two days in a row now, and i'm melting. Tomorrow i'm wearing a sundress, whatever the weather!

Wednesday's outfit:

The dress is vintage (I got it in Paris for a bargain 10 euros!), The scarf is my new Bicester village Vivienne Westwood. The shoes are Vivienne Westwood Melissas and the bag is Friis and Co (Both from Sarenza) The necklace is from Primark (£5).

Today's outfit:

The leggings with the leather panels are Topshop, as is the jacket. The blouse is from boohoo.com (and looks much nicer in real life than it does in the picture) The satchel and necklace are the same as before, the boots are from Firetrap.

Maybe it's time to invest in a decent lightweight raincoat: I just don't know what to do with this weird summer weather anymore!
